Good Morning GMS students and staff and Welcome to another edition of the morning announcements. I’m Mr. Hood and this is Mr. Hoffek are we are coming straight at you from the GMS studios!
This just in, we apologize to 6th grader Ashlee A. her birthday was yesterday. Today, 6th grader Brooklyn H. celebrates her birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Today is Thursday, so students with the last name A-K should be logging into Canvas and going to their Zoom links for each class. Students with the last name L-Z should be logging into each class on canvas and checking your assignments.
Now lets stand for the pledge of allegiance
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.
You may be seated. Let us pause for a moment of silence. Use this time to personally reflect on ways you can be successful today.
Today’s weather includes highs in the mid 70’s and no rain.
In other news, yesterday was continued an old GMS tradition called Wear it Wednesday. We are asking students to wear shirts that are GMS or college related on Wednesdays for B day students and Thursday for A day students to their Zoom meetings. During this time we will also talk a little about some colleges and Universities. Yesterday, Mr. Hoffek talked a little bit about his alma matter: Southern Illinois University. Today, I’m going to talk about my alma matter, Eastern Illinois University. Hood talks a little about EIU…
Today is also “Thermal Thursday”, during this segment, we are going to give helpful tips on how to stay HOT as a student especially during remote learning.
Today’s tip is the “S” in “SLANT”. I’m sure you’ve heard teachers talk about SLANT. Each letter stands for something. The letter S stands for Space for learning. you should “Set up your workspace with all your supplies for class”, “Have a flat and stable surface to type and write on”, and “consider where you’ll be comfortable, less distracted, and able to share audio and video”.
In sports, the Cubs took a loss to the Reds 3-0. The Cardinals had the night off, but they have 2 games against the Tigers today.
In NBA news, the Raptors beat the Celtics to tie the series 3-3 and the Clippers took a 3-1 series lead after beating the Nuggets.
On the women’s side, Phoenix beat Connecticut, Atlanta beat Chicago, and Seattle beat Dallas.
Good luck to the GMS golf team today at sectionals!
And in other local sports news, congratulations to former Southeast High School standout Alex Harden as she has signed with a team is Israel to continue her basketball career.
For breakfast and lunch today, the cafeteria has prepared homemade biscuits with jelly and TACOS!!!!! Remember, breakfast and lunch can be picked up in the parking lot behind GMS from 7:00-11:30. If you aren’t going to eat your food right away, be sure to store it in the fridge and then heat it up when you are ready to eat.
And now for today’s Welcoming Ritual. Teachers are a big part of your life. Who is that one teacher that you have had that stands out?
That about wraps it up for today’s edition of the GMS morning announcements. We will be right back here tomorrow with a special guest, another bad dad joke and more updates that you, the students, need to know. until then ladies and gentlemen, work hard, and stay safe.
