Good Morning GMS students and staff and Welcome to another edition of the morning announcements. I’m Mr. Hood and I’m flying solo coming straight at you from the GMS studios!
Today is wear it Wednesday, September 16th and I’m wearing my Grant Middle School baseball jersey! Did you know, that when you are in high school, there are two different ways that you can get scholarships for college? Most people hear about athletic scholarships, but there are also academic scholarships. That’s right, due to good grades, you could be given money to pay for college!
Students with the last name A-K are asynchronous which means that they are logging into each class on Canvas and completing any assignments that are due. Students with the last name L-Z, this is your day to zoom with your teachers. Please go to canvas and click on the zoom link for each of your classes.
Remember, if something doesn’t work right or you can’t find an assignment, try again… If it still doesn’t work email your teacher your problem. Also, don’t forget that teachers have office hours from 1:45-2:45 each day.
Birthday wishes go out to 7th grader Wyatt B. And I didn’t know this until after announcements, but it was Mrs. Cosgriff’s 25th birthday yesterday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Now lets stand for the pledge of allegiance
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.
You may be seated. Let us pause for a moment of silence. Use this time to personally reflect on ways you can be successful today.
Today’s weather includes partly cloudy skies with 83 degrees as the high.
In sports, the Cubs won in dramatic fashion in the 9th inning to beat Cleveland 6-5, And the cardinals… oh the Cardinals… they lost 18-3 against the Brewers… The Cubs hold a 5 game lead in the division with 11 games remaining on the schedule.
In NBA news, In overtime, the Heat beat the Celtics 117-114 and Denver came all the way back from being down 3 games to 1 to win the western semifinals over the Clippers, That’s a never quit attitude right there…
On the women’s side, Connecticut beat Chicago and Phoenix squeezed out a 1 point win over Washington 85-84.
The GMS baseball team took a loss in their final regular season game.
For breakfast and lunch today, the cafeteria has french toast sticks, Mmmmm. Tres Bien… and mozzarella cheese sticks. Remember, breakfast and lunch can be picked up in the parking lot behind GMS from 7:00-11:30. If you aren’t going to eat your food right away, be sure to store it in the fridge and then heat it up when you are ready to eat.
And now for today’s Welcoming Ritual. Sometimes we need to think about what we are bad at so that we can get better… What is something, either school related or not, that you are really bad at? Me, I’m great at everything… HA! Just Kidding! I am much better in math than in reading, so I know that I need to work on reading. Mrs. Hall, our library gave me a book to check out yesterday called Ghost by New York Times best selling author Jason Reynolds. I haven’t started it yet, but it is about a kid that runs and I coach cross country and track, so I can’t wait to start reading it tonight.
And that wraps it up for today’s announcements. A big SHOUT OUT to the GMS baseball team! You’ve worked hard all season. Good luck next week during regionals!
Until next time everyone, Work hard and be safe!
