Dear Parents and Guardians,
JMS is pleased to announce that we will be hosting an 8th grade “moving up” ceremony this May. It is not a graduation, but an informal rite of passage ceremony for students who are passing the 8th grade. The procession and issuing of certificates will take place tentatively at Southeast High School on Monday, May 20th concurrently with honors night. Each family will receive six tickets; these tickets will be available for parents to pick up at the school beginning May 1st. Please be advised that students must be passing all classes (electives, math, language arts, history, and science) every quarter or achieve a combined passing grade for both first and second semester grades in order to participate. Passing assigned courses is a critical factor in being prepared for a successful transition to high school. As you know, high school students earn credits and are not moved up for failing grades.
Please mark your calendar and plan on attending to watch your child walk across
JMS’ stage and receive their earned “moving up” certificate! If your child is struggling academically and you want to ensure his or her participation in the moving up ceremony, please contact the guidance office to sign up your child for tutoring,
schedule a conference with your child’s teachers, and/or receive access to the
district intranet to assist you in monitoring your child’s grades daily.
