ISAT Test Taking Strategies

February 1, 2010

A.S.P.I.R.E. ~

A: Approach/Attitude/All of the Above
Approach taking the test with a positive attitude.

If you see two correct answers, then all of the above is probably the correct answer.

S: Survey/Second-Guessing
Survey the headings, graphics, and multiple-choice questions to get an overview of what is being asked of you.

No second-guessing yourself. Don't keep changing your answers. Unless you misread the question, usually the first choice is the correct choice.

P: Penalty/Piece Together
There is no penalty for guessing. Make an educated guess and select an answer.

Piece together what you've studied to help you understand.

I: Investigate/Inquire
Investigate alternative sources of information to refer to.

Inquire about what you don't understand.

R: Read
Read all of the choices before choosing an answer.

E: Eliminate/Evaluate/Examine/Explore
Eliminate answers you know aren't right.

Evaluate how much time you spend on each question.

Examine your work after you finish.

Explore options for improving how you take the test.
