All coats, gloves and hats must be removed upon entering the building and must be stored in your locker. You may go to your locker before school, before and after lunch, and after school.

You must enter the building through the proper door. 6th grade students enter through the cafeteria doors. 7th grade students enter through the main lobby doors. 8th grade students enter through the gym lobby doors. Please follow the proper procedure!

Hallway sweeps will continue. Be sure to get to class on time and be in your seat before the tardy bell rings.

On this day in 1901, famous cartoonist Walt Disney was born. Disney died on December 15, 1966.

Please remember to take a jacket with you to lunch. It is getting cold outside and you are not allowed to go back to your locker after you eat.

You must eat or drink all snacks before you leave the cafeteria. Nothing is allowed outside! Clean up after yourself in the cafeteria.

Students ~ You must sit on the correct side of the cafeteria. Lunch detentions will be given if you are on the wrong side!

When we have outside days during the winter months, please leave the snow and ice on the ground. If you choose to throw snow, you will receive an after-school detention. Leave the snow on the ground!

When we have an inside lunch day, you must be quiet in the halls. Please be respectful and considerate of those who are in class at that time.

Yearbooks are on sale. The cost is $23. Bring a check made payable to Jefferson Middle School or cash to Mr. Battles in the main office to place your order.

7th/8th grade volleyball ~ practice today after school from 2:30-4PM

There will be an informational parent laptop meeting on Tuesday, December 9th, from 5:30-6:30PM at Lincoln Magnet School. If you are interested in qualifying for taking home your laptop, your parent/guardian must attend this meeting.

Please support the Salvation Army Canned Food Drive! Win a pizza party for your class! The class that brings in the most food per student wins. Start bringing your canned goods and non-perishable items today. Take them to your 1st hour teacher unless you have a 1st hour elective class. We will be accepting canned goods through December 15th.

It is very important that you come to school everyday! Come to school and be prepared to learn each and every day of the school year. We need to maintain at least a 90% attendance rate for meeting AYP.

A special thank you to Mrs. Boosinger, the JMS Show Choir, JMS teachers & administrators, our readers, and parents show came to the Barnes & Nobel Book Fair last night! The winners from our book jacket contest are: Faith M., Catie White, Elizabeth F., and Garielle P. Our Barnes & Nobel drawing winner is Aryana W. Aryana has won free admission to all JMS extracurricular activities for the entire school year! Congratulations!

Nachos will be sold during all lunch shifts on Tuesday, December 9th for the low price of $1!

The Sister Cities Association of Springfield is offering a unique travel opportunity to Japan for any student who will be 14 years old by September 1, 2009. There is an informational meeting at Lincoln Library on Tuesday, December 9th at 7PM for interested individuals. Applications are being accepted now. The application deadline is February 28, 2009. See Mrs. Nelson for more information.

The Gift of Reading Campaign, which donates books to K-2 grade students this holiday season, is currently happening and comes to a close on December 12th. Please bring new books that K-2 graders would enjoy reading. Bring the books to the main office and put them in the blue bin.

Youth from the Springfield Urban League's 21st Century and Expressions in the Light programs are sponsoring a fun and educational lock-in at the YMCA. Youth from these programs have formed a Youth Wellness Bureau in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Sangamon County Department of Health. During events like the upcoming lock-in, youth are given the opportunity to participate in various workshops about teen health and relationship issues. Workshops are facilitated by youth from YWB and adults from various community agencies. This lock-in will also serve as a fundraiser for the upcoming trip to Washington. The lock-in will be this Saturday, December 6th from 9PM - 6AM. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets can by purchased in the main office.

Don't forget to turn in your PRIDE cards for prizes!

Whenever you have a guest teacher, you are to show him/her the same respect as you would your regular teacher. The guest teacher knows the BIST procedures. If you are asked to go to the Safe Seat, you must move to the Safe Seat. If you must be removed from the classroom, you will be escorted to room 109 and issued two after-school detentions.
