September 1, 2006

Morning Announcements:

• Odd Day Today
Students: please be aware that even though you had an odd day yesterday, today is once again an "odd" day since it is September 1st.

• Bus #18
Students that ride bus #18 and are picked up at Foxbridge and Little should now catch the bus at Bunn Drive and Park Ridge. This change is due to construction in the area.

• Welcome Back to School Dance
Our 1st dance of the year will be held Friday, September 8th from 6-8 PM. There will be a $3 admission charge. This activity is for Jefferson students only — no exceptions!

• Schedule Changes
Today, Friday, September 1st, is the last day to make a schedule change!

• New Lunch Schedule
Students will enter the building when the bell rings. There will NOT be a tardy bell. Students will have 4 minutes to prepare for the afternoon and get to their SSRW class.

There will be no break between SSRW and your next class! You will remain in that classroom.

• No School Monday
There will be no school Monday. Happy Labor Day! Enjoy your long week-end.

Reminder: No flavored water, sport drink, or juice drinks will be allowed into the building after lunch!

• Dress Code
Most of our students are doing a great job complying with the new enhanced dress code. However there are a few students that are still having trouble finding the correct clothes to wear.

Please remember:
1) absolutely no striped polo shirts
2) no stripes on the sleeve edges or collar edges of the polo shirts
3) no emblems or brand designs anywhere on the shirt
4) no button all of the way down the front shirts

Colors of collared polo shirts allowed:
1) yellow
2) navy blue
3) gray
4) white

Remember — no neckties are to be worn. Also, if you wear a t-shirt under your polo shirt, the t-shirt must be tucked in. The t-shirt should not be showing. Please remember that sleeveless shirts are not allowed.

Teachers — if there is a student in violation of the dress code, please fill out a minor referral and call for an escort to room 110.

• 21st Century
Postcards have been mailed to homes of those students eligible for participation in the 21st Century program. Miss Alexander will be available Tuesday during all lunch shifts. Please see her if you receive a card in the mail.

• Info Packets
Several forms that need to be signed and returned were sent home with your student on August 22nd, the first day of school. Please read, sign and return these forms as quickly as possible.

• Fundraiser
The JMS Fall Fundraiser will be different this year. We will be taking orders from the "Simple Pleasures" and "Jenny's Favorites" brochures. Items offered will range from cheese and sausage to cookie dough!

The sale ends September 5, 2006. Late orders will not be accepted.

Payment must accompany your orders!

Delivery will be approximately 2 to 3 weeks after the sale ends.

• Planners
Attention students: all students must purchase a planner by Friday, September 8th. This is required! The planners cost $5 and can be purchased from your teacher.

• Band & Music News
Students interested in J-Jazz Choir: it will begin next Wednesday, September 6th, after school from 2:30 - 4 PM. If you like to sing and move, join us for more details! This is open to all grade levels. There are no tryouts — just come to the meeting. If you have questions, see Mrs. Charneski in room 122. Activity buses will be available.

6th grade band students: 3rd hour Mrs. Charneski will see those students who signed up to play drums.

• Cell Phones
Please remember that all cell phones must be in your lockers. You may not have them out during the school day. If you are seen with your cell phone, it will be taken away from you. A parent will have to come to school to retrieve your phone from the main office.

• Bottled Drinks
Students — you must finish drinking your bottled drinks before you come in after lunch! No bottles will be allowed in the building after lunch recess. If you have not finished drinking it, you will be asked to throw it away before entering the building.

• Student Support Program
Mrs. Rennison is Jefferson's Student Support Leader. If you have a problem and would like to talk to her, tell your teacher. You may also see her in the halls before school, at lunch or after school.

Remember our school expectations:
Respect Yourself
Respect Others
Respect Property

If you receive a PRIDE card from one of your teachers, put it in your grade's jar in the lunch line in the cafeteria. Once a week PRIDE cards will be drawn for prizes. Once a month PRIDE cards will be drawn for "Out of the Blue" days.

Our 1st "Out of the Blue" day will be Tuesday. Listen for your name to be called.

Planner # winners:
22, 323, 600

Mrs. Rennison will also be visiting classrooms and handing out birthday pencils to those celebrating birthdays that day!

• Cafeteria News
Students — please remember to sit on the appropriate side of the cafeteria during your lunch period! Mrs. Gordy and Mrs. Lawrence will be writing detentions for those that choose to sit on the wrong side of the cafeteria.
