Every Wednesday, we will have the following inside activities:
• Reading Room in the library
• Game Room for educational board games
• Educational TV programming in the cafeteria
Outside activities every day will include:
• Walk 'n Talk
• Playing on the playground equipment
Everyone will be expected to actively participate in one of these activities.
Teal & aqua are not acceptable uniform shirt colors.
You may NOT wear shirts or sweatshirts with signatures all over them.
Earbuds/headphones must be out of your ears before you enter the building. If you do not, a staff member may take them from you and place them in the main office tagged with your name for pick up later.
Gentlemen ~ Please NO sagging of pants or shorts! If you have belt loops on your shorts or pants, you must wear a belt.
Walkers must arrive at school by 7:45AM in order to eat breakfast & have full choices of items available.
7th & 8th graders must use their assigned stairs — do not use the 6th grade hall as a shortcut!
Nooks & Kindles may NOT be brought to school.
Keep your hands to yourselves!
Restroom passes must remain in your planner. Any restroom pass sheet that is torn out of a planner will NOT be valid. You may NOT use someone else's restroom passes. If you do, you will receive inhouse as a consequence.
Please remember to be quiet in the halls especially during lunch shifts in the 6th grade hall.
Please be sure to check the "Jaguar News" bulletin board in the main lobby for important information.
Please remember to get to class on time. In the mornings, you should not be going into other classrooms to visit with your friends. Come in, go to your locker, get your supplies, go directly to your class!
Please do not share your combination with a friend. If you are having trouble opening your locker, ask an adult for help. Also, do not leave your locker "set" to open. Do NOT share your locker with anyone. If you do, you will receive inhouse as a consequence.
Gum is not allowed at JMS!
No food is allowed on buses. You may have a water bottle.
You may NOT use the hall passes that are in your planner — X them out. You may only use the restroom passes.
Binders & textbooks should NOT be left in the halls or on tables in the halls. These are your responsibility. You must put them in your locker when you are not carrying them to class!
Binders must be carried to ALL classes including your electives. If you need a replacement binder, see your guidance dean.
Behavior on our activity buses needs to improve! If you cannot behave on the activity bus, you will not be allowed to ride. Your parent/guardian will have to come pick you up after your after-school activities.
CELL PHONE POLICY
Effective Tuesday, January 20th, students cannot be in possession of cell phones during school hours. All cell phones must be kept in lockers. If a locker is damaged and will not lock, please notify the administration.
• Brain Busters
Brain Busters will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in the library. Don't forget!
• Washington, D.C. Trip
If you have not signed up for the trip to Washington, D.C. but still would like to go, please come to room 220 before or after school to talk to Mr. Craner. World Strides has reopened the trip until 1/30/15.
• Looking Glass
All 8th grade girls who are applying to be a part of the Looking Glass Project should have their essays turned in by the end of the day Friday.
• Science Fair Club
You will meet on Thursday after school in room 209.
• The Spirit of Giving
The Superintendent has invited all District schools to participate in the Spirit of Giving. We will be collecting coins and bills to be presented to St. Martin de Porres. This is not a competition. If you would like to participate, bring in your money to your first period teacher.
• JMS Spirit Wear
If you missed out on ordering JMS t-shirts & sweatshirts, don’t worry! Your 1st hour teachers will be handing out order forms to those who want to place an order. Orders and money are due by January 30th.
If you are interested in purchasing the 2014-15 yearbook, you can order one now for just $20. You can also purchase them online with a credit or debit card. See Ms. Goss-Rodgers in room 103 or Ms. Sponsler in room 219 for an order form. There are order forms available in the Jaguar News in the main lobby also.
• Box Tops 4 Education
We will be collecting Box Tops again this year! Please turn them in to your 1st hour teacher. Classes that collect the most have an opportunity to earn prizes.
Please remember to follow all school rules & to show proper sportsmanship when attending a school sporting event. If you are removed from an event, whether at JMS or another school, you may be banned from attending any future extra-curricular events for the remainder of the school year.

8th grade cheerleaders: Please turn in your recognition night slips to Mrs. Impson today. If you do not have one, see Mrs. Impson!
• Boy's Basketball
There will be study hall today after school for 7th & 8th grade boys basketball team members. Go to Coach Horton immediately after school!
• HS Boys' Basketball City Tournament
Please remember that the Boy's Basketball City Tournament this Thursday, Friday & Saturday at the Prairie Capital Convention Center is a school function and all behavior guidelines will be enforced at all times during the City Tournament. Any inappropriate behavior displayed at the City Tournament will result in consequences that will be enforced by the administration of JMS. This includes behavior inside the Convention Center, as well as adjacent to the facility.
In addition, we want to remind everyone that students are expected to wear clothing that does not include lewd, obscene, or vulgar language or representations of anything illegal. Large chains or wallet chains are not allowed. Caps may be worn, but the bill must remain facing forward.
No seating will be allowed in the balcony. Therefore, no spectators are allowed in the balcony area.
Please remember that the Springfield Police Department will be wanding all spectators as they enter the Convention Center.
Students are prohibited from standing on the seats at any and all times. Students may be asked to leave the premises if they indicate an unwillingness to cooperate with security personnel. Anyone asked to leave may not return to any future games this weekend.
The second game will conclude at approximately 9:15PM. Please make sure your ride, if needed, is available to pick you up at that time.
Most importantly, we hope you and your friends have fun and enjoy the City Tournament this weekend. The Tournament should prove to be very exciting, safe, and enjoyable for fans of all ages!
