Every Wednesday, we will have the following inside activities:
• Reading Room in the library
• Game Room for educational board games
• Educational TV programming in the cafeteria
Outside activities every day will include:
• Walk 'n Talk
• Playing on the playground equipment
Everyone will be expected to actively participate in one of these activities.
If you have a change of address or phone number, please notify Mrs. Frye in the Guidance Office.
Teal & aqua are not acceptable uniform shirt colors.
You may NOT wear shirts or sweatshirts with signatures all over them.
You may NOT tuck your pant legs into your socks.
Earbuds/headphones must be out of your ears before you enter the building. If you do not, a staff member may take them from you and place them in the main office tagged with your name for pick up later.
Gentlemen ~ Please NO sagging of pants or shorts! If you have belt loops on your shorts or pants, you must wear a belt.
Walkers must arrive at school by 7:45AM in order to eat breakfast & have full choices of items available.
7th & 8th graders must use their assigned stairs — do not use the 6th grade hall as a shortcut!
Nooks & Kindles may NOT be brought to school.
Keep your hands to yourselves!
Restroom passes must remain in your planner. Any restroom pass sheet that is torn out of a planner will NOT be valid. You may NOT use someone else's restroom passes. If you do, you will receive inhouse as a consequence.
Please remember to be quiet in the halls especially during lunch shifts in the 6th grade hall.
Please be sure to check the "Jaguar News" bulletin board in the main lobby for important information.
Please remember to get to class on time. In the mornings, you should not be going into other classrooms to visit with your friends. Come in, go to your locker, get your supplies, go directly to your class!
Please do not share your combination with a friend. If you are having trouble opening your locker, ask an adult for help. Also, do not leave your locker "set" to open. Do NOT share your locker with anyone. If you do, you will receive inhouse as a consequence.
Gum is not allowed at JMS!
No food is allowed on buses. You may have a water bottle.
You may NOT use the hall passes that are in your planner — X them out. You may only use the restroom passes.
Binders & textbooks should NOT be left in the halls or on tables in the halls. These are your responsibility. You must put them in your locker when you are not carrying them to class!
Binders must be carried to ALL classes including your electives. If you need a replacement binder, see your guidance dean.
Behavior on our activity buses needs to improve! If you cannot behave on the activity bus, you will not be allowed to ride. Your parent/guardian will have to come pick you up after your after-school activities.
CELL PHONE POLICY
Effective Tuesday, January 20th, students cannot be in possession of cell phones during school hours. All cell phones must be kept in lockers. If a locker is damaged and will not lock, please notify the administration.
• Guidance Info
Mrs. Frye has given out several address correction forms & no one has returned theirs. Please return these as soon as possible. The correct addresses are needed for report cards at the end of the year.
Also, 8th graders who have not returned their high school registration forms MUST return those to Guidance as soon as possible.
• 8th Grade Dance
All JMS 8th grade students will be recognized at the dance tomorrow evening. This dance is for all JMS students.
Where: JMS Gym
Dinner will be provided at 5:30PM for 8th grade students only!
• High School Show Choir
Attention all 8th graders ….
If you are interested in auditioning for show choir at Springfield High School, information is now available on the Jaguar News wall. Springfield auditions are May 19th.
• Bus Riding
Students who do NOT ride a school bus to and from school but who did ride a bus for an academic field trip [AVID, IMSA, PLTW, Band/Choir All City Practice, etc.] need to go to Ms. Riley in room 110 as soon as possible.
We will NOT be placing any more orders this school year for JMS Spirit Wear t-shirts or sweatshirts. Mrs. Collier has several t-shirts & sweatshirts in the main office. If you are interested in purchasing one of those, please check with her to see if she has your size!
• PE Clothes
Please take all PE clothes to the locker room before school starts in the morning. If you have any questions, see Mr. Knox or Mr. Tyler.
• Brain Boosters
Brain Boosters will meet after school on Tuesdays & Thursdays in the library.
• Box Tops 4 Education
There is still time to be entered in the May raffle for a chance to win a free lunch with a guest of honor. Not just a school lunch but a choice of lunch from Arby's, McDonald's, Taco Bell, KFC, or Jimmy John's. If you are interested in entering, just bring in 10 unexpired boxtops attached to a "dollar" form and turn in to your 1st hour teacher. The next winner will be drawn on Wednesday, May 20th, so make sure to bring the boxtops in by Tuesday, May 19th.
• Read to the Rhythm
Boys & girls of all ages are encouraged to sign up for Read to the Rhythm!, the 2015 Summer Reading Program at Lincoln Library, the Public Library of Springfield, IL.
Summer reading begins Saturday, May 30th and ends Saturday, July 25th. When you sign up at the library, you will receive a bookmark, book bag, reading log, and calendar of events.
Fun prizes await you upon completion of your reading goals. In addition, exciting activities are planned for children of all ages!

• Enjoy the City Coupon Books
To help raise money to support our JMS students, JMS will be selling "Enjoy the City" coupon books.
When: April 29th - May 22nd
Cost: $20 per coupon book
All students need to do is fill in the buyer's name, collect the money, turn in the order form with the money to the main office, and pick up the books ordered. Order forms will be going home with a list of participating restaurants that are featured in the book.

• Summer Jobs for 8th Graders
ConAgra Foods Foundation & National 4-H Council have partnered to create the 4-H Food Smart Families Initiative to help families live healthy on a budget. Any 8th grader who is going into 9th grade in August is eligible to be a Teen Teacher for the program. You will be teaching younger youth how to make nutritious meals. Payment will be in the form of a $300 Amazon electronic gift card. If you are interested, email a cover letter and resume to Ms. Fallon Rowl to firstname.lastname@example.org
JMS JAGUARS ~ You are STUDENTS first & ATHLETES second!
Please remember to follow all school rules & to show proper sportsmanship when attending a school sporting event. If you are removed from an event, whether at JMS or another school, you may be banned from attending any future extra-curricular events for the remainder of the school year.
If you were issued a track uniform, but are no longer part of the team, please turn in the entire uniform to Mr. Blunk or Ms. Guerrero. The school will be issuing fines beginning this Friday for unreturned uniforms.
• SSHS Boys' Basketball Camp
Southeast High School Boys' Basketball Camp will be held June 15 - June 19. Registration fee is $50. See Mr. Hamilton for registration forms.
