School Improvement Grant Goals

February 9, 2012

This has been an exciting year so far at Lanphier High School. We are very proud of how hard the students and staff are working to make certain that we meet our School Improvement Grant goals. Those goals are:

1. 2011 PSAE results show 28.3% of Lanphier’s students in the meets/exceeds category in reading/language arts. The percentage of students in the meets/exceeds category will increase to 55% on the 2012 PSAE.

2. 2010 PSAE results show 26.2% of Lanphier’s students in the meets/exceeds category in Mathematics. The percentage of all students in the meets/exceeds category will increase to 55% on the 2012 PSAE.

3. Graduation rate for all students will increase to 100% for all subgroups by 2014.

4. Attendance rate for all students will increase to 95% by 2014.

In order to reach our Goal #1 this year, the entire school is taking time to focus on specific literacy skills. Students learn and practice these skills not only in English class, but all other classes as well. Students have already learned about vocabulary, generalizations/conclusions, main idea and cause/effect. Our next focus skill will be author’s purpose. We will be covering this skill from February 14 through February 24. These are important skills that all students need to be able to read with confidence and proficiency. Students that read well, do better in school. You can help your student by asking her/him to explain to you what she/he has learned so far about each of these skills. You could practice reading and identifying the author’s purpose together by using any book, magazine or newspaper. If you have any questions or would like additional information and/or resources, please contact your student's English teacher.

Thank you for all of your support and assistance in making sure that our students succeed. We appreciate all that you do to help make Lanphier the best educational environment possible for our students. The next Parent/Teacher Organization meeting is Tuesday, February 21st at 5:30. Please consider attending and learning about what wonderful things are happening at LHS. This is a wonderful group of dedicated individuals who would welcome fresh faces and new ideas.

As always, please feel free to contact your child’s teachers with any questions or concerns.
