The books have arrived!

November 5, 2008

Over 200 of them!!!

During the Spring of 2008, Lawrence Education Center learned that we were a recipient of a grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries. This grant allowed the Lawrence Memorial Library to purchase books for the students to check out and read. Almost every one of the student suggestions for books was fulfilled. Needless to say, the library is filled to the brim with new titles chosen mostly by our students.

Press Release
May 21, 2008

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Lawrence Education Center is one of 190 libraries chosen from across the country to receive money for library book purchases from The Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries. Over 1,000 applicants nationwide applied for this grant. The chosen schools receive grants of up to $6,000.

The mission of the Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries is to support the education of our nation's students by providing funds to update, extend and diversify the book and print collections of America's school libraries.

"Books inform, entertain and inspire," Mrs. Bush said. "And the books we read as children shape who we become as adults. These grants to school libraries will make sure more [students] have access to books—also making sure more [students] enjoy the lifelong benefits of reading."
