On September 20th Lawrence Education Students had the opportunity to participate in IDOT Career Day. It was a very exciting day, filled with new ideas for careers, great lunch, and lots of fun. The goal of the event was to encourage high school students to consider careers in the transportation industry. At the event various careers were featured including engineering, surveying, trades, and construction. There were hands on activities building chairs from PVC pipe, driving nails, and playing jeopardy. We were escorted through the exhibits by guides who made it very fun. The guides asked trivia questions and rewarded the correct answers with candy. The trivia questions created a fun learning experience. Some of the exhibits included a display of heavy equipment such as pavers, back hoe, and excavator. The students enjoyed rides up and down on the scissor lift. The students were very appreciative of being invited to the event.
