Tuesday announcements

April 8, 2008

Today is Tuesday, April 8th. Today is an A day.

Students are dismissed at 11:00 today, due to professional development for students.

An LMS 7th grader, Jordan L., is a winner of the American Red Cross Youth Writing Contest. The contest was open to students in grades K-12 in six counties. The topic was "Heroes: There were more than 600 entries, and Jordan was one of 12 winners! Jordan will receive a $300 savings bond, and will be recognized at the Heroes Breakfast on Friday, April 11th. Congratulations, Jordan!

We have some dazzling artists at LMS! The students have their art work displayed at the RMD Gallery and Framing Studio during the entire month of April. You can take an opportunity to stop by the gallery to view their artwork and vote as part of the People's Choice Award balloting which will go on through April 23rd. All students will be recognized and celebrated during a reception on April 26th, and the People's Choice Award and several other awards will be announced at that time.
Here are the ART STARS:
Brooke G.
Vanichia W.
Caleb H.
Molly C.
Kellen M.
Mason A.

Track announcement:
Students may not come to any more track team practices until current sports physicals and contracts are turned in.
All athletes must have current sports physicals and signed contracts turned in by Friday, April 11.
If these documents are not on file by Friday, April 11, then the athlete is no longer on the track team.
If students are not sure about their status, LMS students should check the list that is posted on the gym door. Ball-Charter students should check with Mr. Durrett.

On Monday, April 14th, we will host a track meet at Southeast High starting at 3:30. We could use parental help! Please call 525-3236 to let us know if you can join the fun!

We have had several phones and electronic devices missing in the past few days. When a student reports something missing, we ask that they write up a description so that I can announce it. If you find an item, you need to turn it into the office. If it is found in your possession, and has been reported missing, we treat it as a theft. This is a suspendible offense! Please help us return items to their rightful owners by turning them in at the office.

There is information about the SHG Cheerleading tryouts on Mrs. Heyen's table. The informational meting is April 14th. Tryout clinics are April 28-May 1. Tryouts are May 2nd. One of our former LMS students was on their squad for three years.

Parents, we have a spring field trip planned at each grade level. These trips are all related to the curriculum for that grade level, and enhance the learning experience for your student. If it is a financial burden for you to pay the trip fee, PLEASE call the office and talk to Mrs. Kruger. We do not want any student to miss out on these opportunities due to finances.

Lanphier High School is holding POMS clinics and tryouts. Packets will be available at the meeting and after April 1st. Clinics will be held on April 9th and 10th, with tryouts on April 11th.

Just a reminder that students with the 1-to-1 computers have a HUGE responsibility in protecting those computers! If you do not have the insurance rider on your home owner's policy, State Farm offers it for $30 a year. With screen repairs costing $775.00, the rider is a good investment. Please call Fredia Hawthorne at 217 529-4935 for a Personal Article Policy. You would only qualify for it if you have a good claims history, but it is worth checking into.

Students should not have cell phones or electronic devices visible in the hallways. I-pods are to be used in class with teacher approval only! Visible items will be confiscated. Cell phones are to be used after school OUTSIDE, during lunch in the main office.
