Thursday announcements

February 28, 2008

Today is Thursday, February 28, and it is an A day.

The Girls on Track group will have a meeting this Thursday, February 28, from 2:30-4:00. Please plan to attend if you were part of the group who met in the fall.

The Chess club will play against Grant on Thursday at Grant. The team make take the bus home after the games. Good luck, boys!

We will offer sports' physicals this Thursday, February 28th. This is an opportunity for you to get a sports' physical for $10.00. Track season starts in March, so all track students will need an up-to-date physical. These are good for one calendar year, so if your child had one this year, he or she should not need another.

Expanding Your Horizons in Math, Science and Technology-A hands-on career conference for girls in 6th, 7th and 8th grade, will be held at the Public Affairs Center at U of I at Springfield on Saturday, March 8. There are workshops for students and parents. The cost is $10.00 per person. For more information, log on to www.aauw-il.org/springfield, or call 529-4165 Meise Fahsl. This is a great opportunity-don't miss it!

Here are the lunch choices for the rest of the month (subject to change)
Wed., Feb. 27 Macaroni and cheese, Hot dogs
Thurs., Feb. 28 Hot ham and cheese, Chili, Fish sandwich
Fri., Feb. 29 Manager's choice (Surprise!)

The Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) is jut around the corner! The ISAT measures individual student achievement and shows how well students and schools are performing based on the Illinois Learning Standards. The test results also identify areas of strength and weakness for students and schools. The ISAT tests will be given to all sixth, seventh and eighth students during March 3-14, 2008. Parents should make every effort possible to have their child at school and arriving on time during this testing. Listed below are the areas that each grade level will be tested.

Sixth Grade: Reading, Math and Writing
Seventh Grade: Reading, Math and Science
Eighth Grade: Reading, Math and Writing

Last year, we requested, and received, lots of snacks to distribute during the testing. It helped to make it through the stress of testing! We would really appreciate any items that you can send from the following list. There will be 28-30 students in each testing group.

Individually wrapped mints
Individually wrapped snacks (trail mix bars, fruit snacks)
Packaged trail mix (large bags)
apples
Pretzels (large bags)
bottled water
Other healthy snacks
