Good morning! Today is Monday, August 20, and it is an A Day for everyone. Welcome to the first day of what will be an exciting school year! School will be in session for a full day (8:00 am-2:30 pm) this week except for Wednesday. All District 186 students will be dismissed one hour early (1:30 p.m.) every Wednesday during the 2018-2019 School Year.
Students will report to their homerooms. Signs are in the locker area in order to help students locate their homeroom. In addition, students should take school supplies to homeroom.
Drop off and Pick Up Procedures: Students who are car riders will need to be dropped off in the morning on the Capitol Street side of the building. DO NOT DRIVE ON THE BLACKTOP TO DROP OFF OR PICKUP A STUDENT!!!
Dismissal: Parents may not park on Monroe Street (behind the building), 12th Street (east of the building), nor on Capitol Street (in front of the building). All other side streets, as well as the church parking lot on the corner of 12th Street & Monroe Street, may be used for student pick up.
Parents should not drive on the blacktop to park, or for student drop off or pick up. **During the school day, the blacktop parking lot is reserved for LMS and District staff only. There is a handicap accessible parking spot available during the day located to the right of the 12th Street Entrance next to the playground.
Meet the Teacher Night will be held on Wednesday, August 29, from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
The Welcome Back Dance will be held on Friday, August 24, from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Activity busses are available for those students eligible. In order to ride an activity bus, a student must be eligible for bus transportation to LMS. Please make sure that your student knows which activity bus to ride. If you have questions, please call the main office.
All students interested in joining the Cross Country Team should plan on attending our first official meeting/practice on Tuesday, August 21, after school from 2:30-4:00 pm. Be sure to come dressed for a workout. All runners must have a current physical on file in order to continue participating. Ball Charter students will ride a bus to LMS. Please make sure your student knows their activity bus stop. LMS students must be eligible for bus transportation to LMS in order to ride an activity bus. Ball Charter students are eligible to ride an activity bus if they do not live within walking distance of LMS. Parents may also pick up their student promptly at 4:15 p.m.
There will be a mandatory parent/student meeting for students participating in Cross Country on Wednesday, August 29, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the gym (following Meet the Teacher).
6th, 7th & 8th grade girls interested in playing girls basketball need to put their name on the sign-up sheets located on the activity table in the main hallway.
There will be a 7th & 8th grade girls basketball open gym on Friday, August 24, from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at Ball Charter. You will need your own transportation. Only 7th & 8th grade girls interested in trying out will be permitted in Ball Charter during the open gym.
7th & 8th grade girls basketball tryouts will be held on Monday, August 27, and Tuesday, August 28 @ Ball Charter School from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Tryouts are closed and only 7th & 8th grade girls attending tryouts will be allowed in Ball Charter School. You will need your own transportation. Girls interested in trying out for Girls Basketball must have an updated physical on file by the first day of tryouts. 6th Grade Girls Basketball Tryouts will be held on Thursday, August 23, at LMS from 5:30-7:00 p.m., and on August 24, at Ball Charter School from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Students are expected to attend both tryouts. If there is a conflict, please contact Mr. Hampsey. Tryouts are closed and only students trying out will be permitted inside Ball Charter. Parents/family members may wait in the parking lot or come back to pick up their student.
