November 9, 2020

Happy Monday Leopards! Today is November 9th and it's going to be a B-eautiful Day!!

Welcoming Ritual: The weather is going back to colder later this week. What climate do you prefer to live in? Share your favorite temperature range and/or season that you enjoy the most.

CONGRATULATIONS! A huge congratulations to the following students who competed in the ILMEA music competition and received honors, awards, and recognition! It's equivalent to going to the state championship for band and choir.

Concert Band - Aden B., Alex H.

Choir - Celia P., Katie T., Jackie T.

Extra special congratulations go to Aden B. and Jackie T., for having the HIGHEST SCORE IN THE STATE on their instrument/voice part. That is amazing!!!

Office Hours: Did you know that ALL teachers have office hours from 1:30-2:30pm?!?! If you have questions, need help with something, want clarification, or just feel you want to touch base with a teacher, reach out to them and they will be happy to meet with you on their Zoom at 1:30pm.

Jazz Band: Jazz Band is beginning to get underway!! If you are interested in becoming a part of our Jazz Band after school club, please email the band director Mr. Russell at wrussell@sps186.org. It will meet after school hours, and you do not have to be in regular band class to be a part. However, students must be proficient on a standard jazz band instrument (sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, drum set).

Math Tutoring: Math tutoring has officially started on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays of each week, from 1:30-2:30pm!! Tutoring Zoom link is on your math teachers canvas page. It is different than your class zoom link. You don't have to have an appointment to come, pop in any day of the week or all three, your math teachers want you to be successful!

National Calendar Day: Today is "National Microtia Awareness Day". Microtia Awareness Day dedicates November 9th to spreading hope and knowledge concerning a congenital disability, which derives its name from the Latin terms for little ears. Mark the calendar and think of the number 9 as the shape of an ear. Approximately one child in every 9,000 is born with Microtia. Microtia occurs when the ear or ears do not fully develop during the 1st trimester of pregnancy.

"National Louisiana Day" On November 9, National Louisiana Day recognizes the state that brought us such treasures as Jazz, Creole and American Mardi Gras. Throughout the history of the state, the blending of race and culture have resulted in the Delta’s own unique flair that brings visitors from around the world seeking to taste their food, hear their music and see their style.
