District 186 Families,
The Governor and his staff today stressed the importance of staying at home, washing hands, cleaning frequently touched surfaces and practicing social distancing if you must go out as we battle the coronavirus that is plaguing our nation.
Some of you may be wondering when this school closure will end and when we can go back to our normal operations of life. The simple answer is that we do not know. At this time we have to surrender to the unknown. As a District we are continuing to add activities to our Home-Based Learning link on our website, and teachers are providing activities on their classroom websites as well. Please make sure you are checking in with your child’s teacher. This can even be done on a smartphone. District website - www.sps186.org
We continue to offer our meal distribution as noted on our website, but we too are practicing these safety measures in our efforts to make sure our staff and families picking up meals are safe. We have recently delivered Home-Based Learning packets to our four main meal distribution sites at the three high schools and Franklin Middle School, just ask for them when you pick up meals.
Yesterday, we asked you to complete a quick survey if possible. If you have not yet done this, please do so today. Survey Link - https://forms.gle/gLykJwntVfA57CVz6
What about the SAT Assessment scheduled for high school juniors on April 14, 2020?
The free SAT provided by the State for all juniors in high school was originally scheduled to take place on April 14, 2020. This assessment is postponed and the Illinois State Board of Education is working to make sure that this opportunity to take a college entrance exam will occur in coming months. We hope to have more information on these options by the end of April.
At this time all other State assessments have been cancelled as well.
Take care of yourself and your families and remember to heed the precautions that our health care professionals and local and state government have put in place.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Gill
Superintendent
