SENIORS AND SENIOR PARENTS: The next in a series of financial aid meetings, "The Path to FAFSA" will be presented on Thurs., Nov. 18 at 6:30 in the Commons. This 45 minute presentation will help you to understand what happens when and after you file the FAFSA. The presenter is a representative from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.
Seniors interested in Northern Illinois University: NIU is offering an application fee waiver to students who have not yet applied and who plan to attend the Nov. 11 Open House or who plan to visit before Dec. 1.
Many of the state universities are holding Open House on or around our Veteran's Day holiday. Check out the bulletin board outside the cafeteria for specific dates.
New scholarships: Check the Guidance/Scholarship database for the National Co-Op Scholarship Program,
The AXA Achievement Scholarship and the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers or see Mr. Crum or Mrs. Povse in Guidance.
SENIORS INTERESTED IN EDUCATION: The Illinois PTA scholarship is now available. Graduating seniors preparing to enter education or education-related fields and who are in the upper 33% of the class may apply. Deadline is Feb. 15. See Mr. Crum or Mrs. Povse in Guidance for an application.
Are you ready for some Dodge Ball? Back by popular demand, the Booster Club will host its 2nd annual Dodge Ball Tournament on Wednesday, November 10th, at 6 PM in the SHS gymnasium. Registration and waiver forms will be available this week at a sign up table during lunch. Forms are also available on the website or in the main office. Cost is $30 per team. A team consists of 6 – 8 players. Deadline to sign up is Today.
Our last blood drive we had 72 donors try, collected 64 units, and 37 first time donors! Blood donations save lives. Not more than 48 hours after our last blood drive, Mrs. Fisher in the main office received 3 units of blood through two lifesaving transfusions. Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 8:30am-2pm and receive a free t-shirt for donating. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, Nov. 15. If you already signed up for the Blood Drive, please return to the Guidance Office and sign up again. The sign-up form was removed. Teachers do not need to sign-up, they can just report to the auditorium. Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.
“It’s all about doors & sardines!” Noises off! directed by Allison Martsch, come see what all the farce is about November 12th & 13th at 7 PM and the 14th at 1 PM in the Schnirring Auditorium right here at SHS. Tickets are $7 and $5 for students and seniors. Come to opening night to hear this Spring’s musical announced. Hope to see you there!

All Boys considering swimming or diving for SHS this season need to attend a brief meeting in the SHS Commons at 3:30 today.
Springfield Park District now accepting team registrations for our High School Basketball Program. The program will run December 5th- February 27th. The fee is $400 for 11 games and single elimination tournament. All games are held on Sundays at Benedictine University’s gym at 8th and Converse. Registration Deadline is November 19th. We will be selling yearbooks in the commons during both lunch shifts until December 10th. They are being sold for $50! This is your ONLY chance to order your 2010/2011 Yearbook so make sure you order it NOW. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Barkmeier in room 370.
There is a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddle tomorrow at 7 in Mr. Nesbit’s room. Come for games, food, and a devotional! Bring your friends & we hope to see you there!
There will be an important Speech Team meeting tonight at 6:30 in the cafeteria. Please bring your parents so we can discuss competitions and expectations. Also, speech team members need to turn in their forms regarding competitions ASAP to Ms. Negele in room 362.
Juniors and Seniors: The next 2 college bus trips have been scheduled. We will be going to Western Illinois University, Macomb on Dec. 1 and to Eastern Illinois University, Charleston on Dec. 9th. The first eligible 35 students with signed permission slips will be able to attend. Get your permission slips in the Guidance Office.
SENIORS: Seniors and their parents are invited to a financial aid presentation entitled "The Road to FAFSA" on Thursday, Nov. 18th at 6:30 in the commons. To help you prepare for filing your FAFSA all seniors are encouraged to attend.
The Guidance Office is now ready to print new id's at the cost of $5.00 each. Please check into the Guidance Before school, lunchtime or after school to have a new id printed.

Attention German Club and Spanish Club! If you want to be on your club’s team for Capture the Flag, please see Herr Koeppel and Senor Kniffin to sign up with a $2 deposit. Sign-ups will begin today after school.

Wrestling practice starts today after school. All athletes must have a physical & waiver on file meet in the Joe Bee Wrestling Room, which is next to the weight room. Any questions, see Coach Nesbit in room 266.
Current NHS members: this is a reminder that you need to attend a mandatory meeting on Wednesday in the library. Please meet either at 7:50 or immediately after school and allow enough time for a 25 minute meeting. 35 hours are due by November as well as your 20 membership fee.
Sophomores and juniors interested in joining NHS: there is an informational meeting tomorrow in room 356.
Students! Please turn in your St. Jude team up forms. Forms are to be turned in right outside of the main office in a ballot box. The deadline to turn in St. Jude forms is Friday.
Attention Seniors: Class sweatpants and t-shirt order forms are due this Wednesday. This is your last order for t-shirts, so don’t miss out on your final chance to buy one! T-shirts are $12 and sweatpants are $22; extra order forms may be picked up in Mrs. Pence’s room, room 210. Please return completed forms and money to Mrs. Pence or her mailbox in the main office. Show off your senior pride and get your orders in by this Wednesday!!

The Cross Country team ended their season Saturday at the State Meet on Detweiller Park. The Girls team brought home a 3rd place trophy and three All-Staters. Kirby Hale, 3rd place with a time of 17:19, Maggie Cornelius, 16th place with a time of 17:48, and Madie Alexander, 18th place with a time of 17:49. The Boys team brought home a 2nd place trophy and one All-Stater. Michael Simon finished 13th place with a time of 14:59. Outstanding job by both teams, Congratulation on a great season.
