SENIORS AND SENIOR PARENTS: The next in a series of financial aid meetings, "The Path to FAFSA" will be presented on Thurs., Nov. 18 at 6:30 in the Commons. This 45 minute presentation will help you to understand what happens when and after you file the FAFSA. The presenter is a representative from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.
New scholarships: Check the Guidance/Scholarship database for the National Co-Op Scholarship Program,
The AXA Achievement Scholarship and the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers or see Mr. Crum or Mrs. Povse in Guidance.
SENIORS INTERESTED IN EDUCATION: The Illinois PTA scholarship is now available. Graduating seniors preparing to enter education or education-related fields and who are in the upper 33% of the class may apply. Deadline is Feb. 15. See Mr. Crum or Mrs. Povse in Guidance for an application.
Our last blood drive we had 72 donors try, collected 64 units, and 37 first time donors! Blood donations save lives. Not more than 48 hours after our last blood drive, Mrs. Fisher in the main office received 3 units of blood through two lifesaving transfusions. Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 8:30am-2pm and receive a free t-shirt for donating. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, Nov. 15. If you already signed up for the Blood Drive, please return to the Guidance Office and sign up again. The sign-up form was removed. Teachers do not need to sign-up, they can just report to the auditorium. Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.
“It’s all about doors & sardines!” Noises off! directed by Allison Martsch, come see what all the farce is about November 12th & 13th at 7 PM and the 14th at 1 PM in the Schnirring Auditorium right here at SHS. Tickets are $7 and $5 for students and seniors. Come to opening night to hear this Spring’s musical announced. Hope to see you there!
Springfield Park District now accepting team registrations for our High School Basketball Program. The program will run December 5th- February 27th. The fee is $400 for 11 games and single elimination tournament. All games are held on Sundays at Benedictine University’s gym at 8th and Converse. Registration Deadline is November 19th. We will be selling yearbooks until December 10th. They are being sold for $50! This is your ONLY chance to order your 2010/2011 Yearbook so make sure you order it NOW. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Barkmeier in room 370.
Juniors and Seniors: The next 2 college bus trips have been scheduled. We will be going to Western Illinois University, Macomb on Dec. 1 and to Eastern Illinois University, Charleston on Dec. 9th. The first eligible 35 students with signed permission slips will be able to attend. Get your permission slips in the Guidance Office.
SENIORS: Seniors and their parents are invited to a financial aid presentation entitled "The Road to FAFSA" on Thursday, Nov. 18th at 6:30 in the commons. To help you prepare for filing your FAFSA all seniors are encouraged to attend.
The Guidance Office is now ready to print new id's at the cost of $5.00 each. Please check into the Guidance Before school, lunchtime or after school to have a new id printed.
Attention German Club and Spanish Club! If you are on your club’s Capture the Flag team, please come to the meeting in room 250 today, right after school.
Current NHS members: this is a reminder that you need to attend a mandatory meeting today in the library. Please meet either at 7:50 or immediately after school and allow enough time for a 25 minute meeting. 35 hours are due for November as well as your 20 membership fee.
Students! Please turn in your St. Jude team up forms. Forms are to be turned in right outside of the main office in a ballot box. The deadline to turn in St. Jude forms is Friday.
Attention Seniors: Class sweatpants and t-shirt order forms are due today. This is your last order for t-shirts, so don’t miss out on your final chance to buy one! T-shirts are $12 and sweatpants are $22; extra order forms may be picked up in Mrs. Pence’s room, room 210. Please return completed forms and money to Mrs. Pence or her mailbox in the main office. Show off your senior pride and get your orders in today!!
SENIORS: Check the website for the following new scholarships: Polly Roesch Vocal Music Scholarship, Leroy and Rachel Cantrall teachers' scholarship; and the financial need based scholarships, Henry Bunn, Skelton and Davey.
Cross Country Athletes should turn in uniforms this week after school to Coach Devlin.

Saturday’s game is a "blackout" where everyone wears black. Do you need a new black shirt to wear to the football game against Chatham? If so, stop by the Be A Senator store during lunch on Tuesday or Thursday. Buy a new black t shirt for only $10.00.
All participants in the talent show next Tuesday MUST see Ms. Elmore by Friday and give her the name of your song/act so that it can be put in the program. Failure to do so will mean an alternate act will be in your place.
Want food, fun, dancers, & a DJ? Tickets for the yearbook fundraiser dance next Friday, November 19th, will go on sale for $5 each during lunch in the commons. At the door, tickets are $7 each. This dance is for Springfield High students ONLY. You must show your 2010/11 Springfield High school ID to be admitted to the dance.
