SENIORS AND SENIOR PARENTS: The next in a series of financial aid meetings, "The Path to FAFSA" will be presented on Thurs., Nov. 18 at 6:30 in the Commons. This 45 minute presentation will help you to understand what happens when and after you file the FAFSA. The presenter is a representative from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.

SENIORS INTERESTED IN EDUCATION: The Illinois PTA scholarship is now available. Graduating seniors preparing to enter education or education-related fields and who are in the upper 33% of the class may apply. Deadline is Feb. 15. See Mr. Crum or Mrs. Povse in Guidance for an application.

Springfield Park District now accepting team registrations for our High School Basketball Program. The program will run December 5th- February 27th. The fee is $400 for 11 games and single elimination tournament. All games are held on Sundays at Benedictine University’s gym at 8th and Converse. Registration Deadline is November 19th. Juniors and Seniors: The next 2 college bus trips have been scheduled. We will be going to Western Illinois University, Macomb on Dec. 1 and to Eastern Illinois University, Charleston on Dec. 9th. The first eligible 35 students with signed permission slips will be able to attend. Get your permission slips in the Guidance Office.

SENIORS: Seniors and their parents are invited to a financial aid presentation entitled "The Road to FAFSA" on Thursday at 6:30 in the commons. To help you prepare for filing your FAFSA all seniors are encouraged to attend.

Kings, Queens, Rooks, Bishops, Pawns & Horses! There will be a Chess Club meeting on Friday after school in room 222.

Attention Class of 2013 chilly weather is rolling in and you need to stay warm! Come to the commons during your lunch period anytime next week to order your class sweatshirt! Pre-order only, so bring your money and let’s get warm!

ID’s from picture retakes are in and available in the main office.

Don't miss the 4th annual "Springfield Idol" Contest tonight in the SHS auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door and the audience will also have a chance to determine one of the winners! Over 35 people auditioned for the top 15 spots so don't miss this showcase of talent at SHS.

Any sophomore possibly interested in attending CACC next year needs to get a permission slip from Mr. Crum in the guidance office. Those students will tour CACC on December 8th. This is open to the first 40 sophomores. Permission slips must be returned by Friday, November 19th. See Mr. Crum for more information.

The next Superintendent’s Roundtable meeting is Monday, November 29 at 5:30 PM.

Attention Spanish Club member. Just a reminder, don’t forget to turn in your cookie dough orders no later than Thursday by 3:30. Let’s make this fundraiser a success!

Seniors interested in being a Senate Page need to sign up before November 22nd in the guidance office. Interviews will be held in December.

There will be short meeting in the commons on Thursday at 3:30 for all boys not involved in a winter sport that are interested in competing in track and field in the spring. If you cannot attend please see coach Cotner.

All Springfield Idol participants are to meet after school today for dress rehearsal.

Don't forget Springfield Idol tonight...7 PM in the SHS auditorium. $5 tickets!

Hey Hey JSA! We are having a meeting this Wednesday. Come for food and fun and bring your friends.

KFC Famous Bowls are back! The Senior Class will be selling famous bowls this Thursday in the commons at lunch for $5 each. Hurry down because they sell fast! And remember – don’t wait for the SuperBowl, get your famous bowl this Thursday!

Hey do you have a craving to dance? SHS yearbook is throwing a crave to rave dance, Friday, November 19th in the commons from 8 to 11 PM. Tickets will be on sale all this week at lunch for $5, tickets at the door will be $7. There will be good music by DJ Rico P and free food and drinks. This dance is for Springfield High students ONLY. You must show your 2010/11 Springfield High school ID to be admitted to the dance.

Yearbook is also selling yearbooks until January 7th. They are $50 each, buy them or put one on layaway if you are interested. See Mrs. Barkmeier in room 370. Yearbook is also trying to feature everyone in the yearbook at least once so don’t forget, you’re on our hit list!

In a tense and exciting Capture the Flag match, Spanish Club and German Club ended up with a 1:1 tie. Thanks to all players, referees, teachers, and parents for a great event.

Football players need to report to the locker room today after school to cleanout lockers and turn in equipment.

Did you know that there are over 1 million Americans living with HIV/AIDS and 1 in 5 of them don't even know they have HIV!!! December first is World AIDS Day and we want to to help educate ourselves and our peers about the pandemic. Over the next few weeks you will be empowered with information and facts about HIV/AIDS. You will an opportunity each day at lunch to test your knowledge and win a PRIZE if you the get the answer correct. And don't forget to wear RED on December 1!

Today's facts about HIV/AIDS....
HIV is transmitted through
- Unprotected penetrative sex and oral sex with an infected person.
- Blood transfusions with contaminated blood.
- Contaminated syringes, needles, or other sharp instruments
- An infected mother to her child during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding
Remember...HIV/AIDS is not who you are, but what you DO!
December 1 is World AIDS day - wear red!
