Seniors interested in becoming a lawyer: The Sangamon County Bar Association is offering a $1000 scholarship. Essay, 2 letters of recommendation and application must be postmarked no later than March 12.
Seniors interested in cosmetology: Mr. John's School of Cosmetology Esthetics and Nails is offering a $500 tuition scholarship. Applications due by April 1.
Reminder to potential teachers: the Illinois PTA scholarship must be postmarked by Feb. 15.
Seniors: If you need help filling out the FAFSA there is an upcoming financial aid presentation to assist you. Monday, Feb. 21st, 6P.M. at Lincoln Library, downtown. Call to reserve a seat: 753-4900, ext. 213

SIU-Edwardsville is holding an Open House for students interested in Nursing on Feb. 19 from 8-12. Pre-registration is advised. Register at www.siue.edu/nursing
The Cheerleaders are hosting the second annual Cheer for a Cure fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer Society & St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital tomorrow at the boys’ Home Varsity basketball game. Tomorrow, SHS students, staff and game attendees are asked to make a financial donation and/or bring a St. Jude’s approved toy to donate. St. Jude’s approved toy posters are posted in and around SHS. Please check to make sure your contribution is approved! T-shirt pick up is tomorrow in the annex prior to the Cheer for a Cure game. Come out to help “Cheer for a Cure,” donate towards cancer research! Any questions see MISS Povse in room 160.
Dr. Milton has extended the deadline for applicants for 2011-2012 Student Board Member. The chosen student will serve a one-year term and must be able to attend all bi-weekly board meetings. Student Board Member will be given time to speak regarding student concerns, curriculum, and activities.
In order to be considered, the student must:
•Currently be enrolled as a junior
•Have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher
•Be willing and able to attend all bi-weekly Board meetings
•Submit a biographical sketch outlining his/her academic achievements, goals and reason why he/she would be
the best choice to serve as a Student Board Member
•Provide three written references: two from teachers or school administrators and one from a

SHS Band is hosting an extreme bowling night at Strike and Spare Lanes on Lawrence Sunday, February 13 from 9:00-11:00 pm. The cost is $15 per person, which does include shoes, for unlimited bowling for two hours. There is no school on the following Monday, so get your friends together and join in the fun.
Southeast High School is hosting the 4th Annual Snowball March 11-13th. Students from SHS are invited to attend. If you are interested or have any questions, please see Mrs. Yoggerst in Room 169 for a participant form. These forms are due by Feb. 28th.
Chess Club will be meeting after school next Tuesday, the 15th in Mrs. Dearing’s room, room 222.
Attention All Baseball Players! There will be a short meeting Today after school in the commons for all boys trying out for baseball that are not in a winter sport. See Coach Steinwart in room 166 if you have any questions. Again- baseball meeting, tomorrow, after school, commons.

Congratulations to Morgan Williams for winning the Regional Poetry Out Loud Contest. She will compete at the State level on March 11th. Yvette Purser also competed and did a great job.
Springfield High School had 6 of the 10 This I Believe essay winners. Congratulations to Bennett Stephens, Molly Ducker, Hannah Kolkmeier, Farah Tamizuddin, Callie Smith, and Virginia Moore. There were 70 entries from the area.
