Seniors interested in becoming a lawyer: The Sangamon County Bar Association is offering a $1000 scholarship. Essay, 2 letters of recommendation and application must be postmarked no later than March 12.

Seniors interested in cosmetology: Mr. John's School of Cosmetology Esthetics and Nails is offering a $500 tuition scholarship. Applications due by April 1.

Lunch visits do not require a pass. All scheduled times do need a pass from Guidance or from Mrs. Povse.

SENIORS: The Sangamon County Department of Community Resources is making available the SLICE scholarship. SLICE is for low-income college entrants. Income guidelines must be met. If you receive free lunch you might be eligible. Applications are due May 6. See Mrs. Povse for information and application.

Juniors or Seniors interested in becoming teachers: The Project Midstate Student Support at the University of Illinois, Springfield is now accepting applicants to the program which assists students who want to teach in the Springfield or Decatur public schools. Financial help is available for students in this program. See Mrs. Povse for details and an application. Deadline is March 31.

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Scholarship is now available till March 1st. Check the SHS website for description of the scholarships.

Students please turn completed registration forms into the Guidance office by Friday.

The bus trip to Illinois State University has been re-scheduled for Monday, March 21. The agenda will be somewhat different as this is an official university OPEN HOUSE. Many other schools and visitors will be there. Students with permission slips please let Mrs. Povse know if you do not wish to attend. The bus is currently full but Mrs. Povse will take names for a wait list.

SENIORS WHO ARE LOOKING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS: check out the SHS website under Guidance and then under Scholarship Database. Pay attention to deadlines. Many of the current scholarships have a March 1 deadline. You will need to get those in to Mr. Crum so that he can process the transcript.

Two $5000 scholarships from Cappex.com " High School Innovator of the Year "and "Lead with Your Heart Scholarship". See Mrs. Povse for details.

Men going to Univ. of Illinois: the Balanced Man scholarship from Sigma Phi Epsilon in now available. Deadline is April 18.

JUNIOR GIRLS INTERESTED IN ENGINEERING: Purdue University is sponsoring a Women in Engineering Exploration Day on Monday, April 11. Reserve your spot for this FREE event by April 1 at www.purdue.edu/wiep

The University of Missouri is holding a summer Engineering Camp for current sophomores or juniors in the top 25% of their class. Apply early. The cost is $425 for all expenses. See Mrs. Povse for details.

Students interested in NURSING: Memorial Medical Center and MacMurray College are offering a Teens Experiencing Nursing Summer Camp July 18-21 . See Mrs. Povse for an application. Deadline is April 8.

Dr. Milton has extended the deadline for applicants for 2011-2012 Student Board Member. The chosen student will serve a one-year term and must be able to attend all bi-weekly board meetings. Student Board Member will be given time to speak regarding student concerns, curriculum, and activities.
In order to be considered, the student must:
•Currently be enrolled as a junior
•Have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher
•Be willing and able to attend all bi-weekly Board meetings
•Submit a biographical sketch outlining his/her academic achievements, goals and reason why he/she would be
the best choice to serve as a Student Board Member
•Provide three written references: two from teachers or school administrators and one from a
community member.
Finalists will participate in an interview. All application material should be submitted to Mrs. Stahly by Monday, February 28. Please see Mrs. Stahly with any questions.

Students interested in Illinois State University: a group of ISU students will be in our building this Friday to observe classes. During both lunch shifts they will be in the Commons to answer any questions about Illinois State University. Stop by the table and get your questions answered.

Southeast High School is hosting the 4th Annual Snowball March 11-13th. Students from SHS are invited to attend. If you are interested or have any questions, please see Mrs. Yoggerst in Room 169 for a participant form. These forms are due by Feb. 28th.

Manpower is seeking part time and full time workers for data entry and clerical positions. You must be 17 years old. Apply online at www.manpowerjobs.com . You can pick up an informational flyer in the guidance office.

Sophomores - The ROCTE annual Career Day at Lincoln Land is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8. Sign up sheets will be available in the Guidance Office. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with exhibitors and professionals in career related areas.

Attention students enrolled in Spanish classes: Friday is the last day to make donations of canned foods to the annual “Lots of Latas” canned food drive for the Salvation Army’s food pantry. Which class will win the pizza party lunch??!

National Honor Society Candidates: The induction ceremony has been moved to March 9th. Letters will be sent home shortly.

Summer Employment Opportunity – Kids first Sports Inc is looking for umpires for their summer youth program. If you are 16-18 years old and are interested pick up info and application in the guidance office.

Class of 13: Bring your orders and money for sweatpants to Ms. Negele's room 362 TODAY. Buying sweatpants now will guarantee you have an awesome senior prom!

Spanish Club will be meeting after school Thursday in the commons. Join us for food and fun while we work on decorations for the International Dinner.

February is for lovers—library lovers that is. Win an autographed copy of Jerk, California plus a $10 gift certificate to the March Book Fair. See your English teacher for an entry form.

Any boy interested in trying out for Boys Tennis needs to attend an informational meeting at Springfield Racquet and Fitness Center tomorrow at 4:30 with Coach Graham.

Hey Hey JSA! We are having musical chairs in the library Today. Come for food and fun and bring your friends!

There will be a short meeting Tomorrow after school in room 330 for all girls planning on trying out for softball. This is mandatory, as you will receive the tryout schedule for next week.

ON Saturday, Mrs. Hays will plunge into Lake Springfield in support of Special Olympics. You may donate to Special Olympics during both lunch shifts in the Commons. This is your opportunity to tell Mrs. Hays to "go
jump in a lake".

Students participating in this year’s African American History program will practice after school in the auditorium tomorrow. Be there!

German Club will be showing the movie “Young Toerless” in room 250 after school tomorrow. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Please see a German teacher for the parent-permission form.

Attention Seniors! If you want your baby picture featured in the senior section of the yearbook, then you need to bring it to Amy Allison, Kayla Horner, or Ms. Barkmeier in room 370 by Tuesday, March 1st. No photos will be accepted after March 1st.

Chess club will be meeting Tuesday, March 1st after school in Mrs. Dearing room, room 222.

All football players need to see coach Taylor sometime today to turn in banquet forms. Coach Taylor will have forms if you need one. This includes all freshman sophomores, juniors and seniors that played football this past season. He can be found in the science wing room 516 or 523. The banquet is this Sunday 4-7 in the commons at Springfield HS.
