SENIORS: Benedictine University at Springfield is hosting a "Fast Pass" this week April 26-29th where seniors who have yet to decide on a college can come apply, be admitted and enroll for classes all in one day. You will need to take an official copy of your transcript with you. Request that from Mrs. Krekel in Guidance.
The Springfield Urban League Scholarship is now available from Mrs. Povse. You must show proof of acceptance at an accredited college or university, write an essay on the topic "How has community involvement motivated you toward scholastic achievement?" and be available for an interview on June 1 or 2.
Are you interested in owning or managing your own business one day? District 186 and UIS have teamed up to hold a Saturday academy starting May 7th for all high school students of Springfield Public Schools. Each session will run 9 – 11:30 AM May 7th, 14th, 21st. Applications are due May 2nd. Please see the Guidance office for an application and more information.
Hey SHS-if you're looking for a volunteer opportunity, Lindsay Elementary School has an opportunity for you. The school is hosting a carnival on Saturday May 14th from 11:45-3:15. This opportunity would be great for current sophomores interested in applying for NHS next year. See Mrs. Ruedin, room 360, to sign up.
JUNIORS & SENIORS: The Memorial Medical Center is offering a summer program for teens interested in health careers. This program assigns students to current hospital volunteers in various placements in a service learning format. 20 students are selected. If you are interested in an application see Mrs. Povse.
FOR STUDENTS WHO WILL BE SOPHOMORES OR JUNIORS NEXT FALL: Washington University, St. Louis is holding a "Road to College" program 2 times this summer, June 9 or July 26. The free conference will help you get started on the path to great college planning. See Mrs. Povse for details.
GIRLS INTERESTED IN THE SANGAMON COUNTY FAIR QUEEN PAGEANT: if you want additional details on how to enter the queen pageant and possibly earn a $1500 scholarship, see Mrs. Povse.
FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Mon., May 2, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Friday, April 29. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! Seniors, turn over those couch cushions, look under the bed, and clean out those lockers! It's time to turn in your overdue library books and pay those lost book fines before cap and gown day. Mrs. Dahmane thanks you.
Attention all students who have not taken Behind The Wheel yet and have had a permit for at least 2 weeks, you can now sign up for summer Behind The Wheel. Please see Ms. Dvorak in room 128.
Any Boys soccer player that has not turned in a uniform needs to do so immediately to Mr. Dorr.
Freshman class t-shirts and sweats can be picked up before and after school in room 169 the rest of the week.
Due to testing, there will be no JSA this week but JSA’s benefit concert is April 29th from 6 to 10 PM at Douglas Park. Come to hear local bands like ‘Don’t Mess with Winkie’ and performers like Andrea Heath and Mr. Carson. Tickets are only $5. See a JSA member to buy them.
Please bring in your yellow PEPSI caps to Springfield High by this Friday and drop them in the white barrels in the commons. This is a great way to earn money for our school.
