Attention all students: If you are interested in taking Mandarin Chinese at SHS, please stop by the Guidance Office to pick up an informational flyer. There will be a parent meeting at the board office on Thursday, Sept. 8 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Don't miss this exciting opportunity.

We will have Homeroom tomorrow morning starting at 8:24 a.m. So please check your schedule to see where your Homeroom class is located and go to Homeroom by 8:24 a.m.

Spanish club will have a preview meeting after school this Thursday in the commons. Your application, signed drug/alcohol policy and $7.00 fee are due no later than 3:30 Friday, September 9th to a Spanish teacher.

You must get a pass from Mrs. Povse or from the Guidance Office to be excused to hear these reps. Passes are not required for the LUNCH visits which take place in the Commons. If you are interested in regional admissions presentations for the following schools, Notre Dame, Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn or Stanford, please check the Special Programs listing under Guidance on the school website

SENIORS: On Sept. 8 during your English class period Mr. Williams and Mrs. Povse will meet with you to discuss college application procedures, college visit days, scholarships, financial aid, NCAA, important dates, etc.
JUNIORS: ON SEPT. 13 during your English class period Mr. Crum and Mrs. Povse will meet with you to discuss college search, college visits, college and military recruiter visits, testing, GPA, class rank, NCAA and much more.

Students who are interested in Notre Dame: A representative from Notre Dame will be doing regional presentations tonight at 7:00 at The High School of St. Thomas More, Champaign, Il and on Thursday, Sept. 8, 7:00 at Central Catholic High School, Bloomington, Il. See Mrs. Povse for exact addresses.

Attention girl basketball players not involved in a fall sport: we will begin open gyms today after school. Any questions see Coach Scheffler.

If you like to talk or act, check out the SHS Speech & Acting Team! A speech team meeting for ONLY RETURNING members today after school in room 362. There will be a meeting for NEW members interested in joining the team on Monday, Sept. 12 in room 362.

Anyone not in a fall sport interested in Boys basketball should come to an open gym Wednesday after school in the upstairs gym. Questions? See Coach Reed.

Literature Club’s 1st meeting is Wednesday, the 7th in Ms. Negele’s room 362. Jump into Reading!

A reminder the free SMTD bus passes are in. Please stop by room 169 to pick yours up.

Hey Hey JSA! We will be having a debate this Wednesday in room 330! We will be debating whether or not President Obama will win a reelection in 2012! We will also be talking about upcoming activism projects for this year. Come for food, fun and bring your friends!

Attention class of 2014. Your class officers are having a bake sale at the homecoming tailgate to raise money for your senior prom!! We need volunteers to help make cookies, brownies, and rice crispy treats. If you are interested in donating any of these items, please see an officer to sign up.

The sophomore class will be selling Pizza Hut Breadsticks this Thursday! Three breadsticks and sauce will be sold for a low price of $4.00 for one pack. A limited amount of breadsticks and sauce will be available this Thursday on both lunch shifts, so get there as soon as possible!

Attention German Club! We will be having a meeting after school on Wednesday, September 7th to plan for the kick-off party on Sunday, September 11th. Please make sure you come to the meeting if you are planning to attend the kick-off party.

The Cross Country team competed in Granite City on Saturday. The Girls Varsity team placed 3rd. Kirby Hale was top finisher for SHS. In the girls JV race Mads Nelson was the top finisher for SHS. The Varsity Boys team placed 7th. Sam Cross was the top finisher for SHS. The Boys freshmen/sophomore race, SHS finished 3rd and Grant Luebkemann was the top finisher for SHS.

The Volleyball team went 3 and 2 this weekend in the Lutheran tournament taking 4th place overall. Courtney Pence was named to the All-tournament team. The next match is this Thursday at Bloomington.

The Boys Soccer team improved to 6 and 1 with a 2 - 0 victory over Pleasant Plains. Zabian Morris and Wil Teichman scored for the Senators while Andy Pedraza recorded the shut-out.

SHS swam against the ladies of Richwoods Saturday at Eisenhower Pool. SHS had only 17 girls and Richwoods 34. Annah Carney won the 200 and 100 free narrowly missing the school record in the 200. Natalie Knox won 200 IM, Alex Carney 1st in the 50 free, Madison Milling 1st in the 500 free, and SHS won the 200 free medley. Final score Richwoods 99 - SHS 86.
