Students & Staff! Capitoline has extended the sale of a 2011/12 yearbook for $50! Layaway with $25 down is also still available. Come to Ms. Barkmeier’s room 370 to buy your book during 4th hour, 6th hour, or after school!

SENIORS: The Illinois PTA scholarship for students who plan to enroll in a teacher education or education-related (librarians, school nurses, school psychologists, school social workers or instructional medial specialists) degree program. Must be in upper 33% of class. See Mrs. Povse for application. Deadline is Feb. 17.

Mark your calendar - the SHS Trivia Night is Saturday, January 14th. Win a share of $1,000 in prize money, to be awarded to your favorite SHS sport, club or organization. Doors open 6p ~ Trivia at 7p. $100 per table of up to 10 players. Food and soda will be available for additional purchase. Reservation sheet is available on the SHS website or pick up one in the main office. Get your friends together and WIN!!

The National Defense Transportation Association scholarship is now available. This is open to students planning a career in business, transportation logistics or physical distribution. Two $3500 and four $2000 awards for 4-year college students and two $1500 scholarships for students in a 2-year program. See Mrs. Povse for application. Deadline is March 1.

Also available are The American Legion Legacy Scholarship for students who had a parent die while on active duty and The American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year nomination.

SENIORS: The following scholarships are now available online: Capital Chapter of Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, 3.0 GPA, 29 math and 25 English on ACT, deadline is January 21. AXA Achievement for students who can show outstanding achievement in school, community and work activities, deadline is Feb. 1. Check the Scholarship Database on the school website under Guidance for additional details and a link to the applications.

SENIORS: The Community Foundation for Land of Lincoln scholarships are now available. Details are at the foundation website www.CFLL.org and click on 2012 Scholarship Applications. Deadline for all CFLL scholarships is March 1. A description of these scholarships may be found on Mrs. Povse's door.

SENIORS: the following scholarships are now available: Illinois Division of Sons of Confederate Veterans, SIU-C First Scholars; University of Illinois Springfield Capital Scholars Honors Program. Read the criteria on the SHS scholarship database or see Mrs. Povse.

Looking for a free ACT, SAT OR GRE preparation site. Go to http://number2.com/

The Focus of Your Future scholarship for students who plan to attend any of the following local school: University of Illinois, Springfield, Lincoln Land Community College, Benedictine or Robert Morris is now available from Mrs. Povse. Deadline is Jan. 27 at 5:00.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS: Are you interested in serving in the Navy? Would you like $180,000 to go to college? Come here a special presentation on Jan. 25 at 12:45 regarding the Naval ROTC scholarship. Get a pass from Guidance or from Mrs. Povse.

Permission slips for the 10th grade information tour of CACC are available in the Guidance Office. These are due no later than Tuesday, Jan 10, 8:20 am in guidance. Students will fill the available slots for the tour on a first come first serve basis by returning the completed form.

Attention Seniors! Anyone interested in helping with prom please see one of your class officers!

Any junior or senior interested in a parking spot on SHS grounds, needs to sign up in the main office for the 2nd semester parking lottery drawing.

There will be an informational meeting for all girls interested in playing softball, this Monday after school in room 316. If you are planning in playing but can’t come to the meeting, please see Coach Stapleton or Coach Seiple.
