Good morning Springfield High! Today is Tuesday, January 24, 2012 where successful Senators are productive; they participate in class, complete the work, and turn in the work. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Junior and Senior vocationally oriented students: A trip to tour the new Workforce Development Center at Lincoln Land Community College is planned for Feb. 7 in the morning. This new facility houses state of the art Culinary, Collision Repair, Auto Technology, HVAC and welding, Construction Trades, Mechatronics, Renewable Energies and truck driver training. If you are interested in any of these programs get a permission slip from Mrs. Povse, Mrs. Hays or in Guidance. The first 40 students who return slips and are academically eligible will get to go. Slips are due Jan. 31.

Applications for the Lincoln Land Community College foundation scholarship are now available. The LLCC honors college application is also available for students who have a minimum ACT score of 25. These are due April 2. The deadline for the Focus on Your Future Scholarship for LLCC, Robert Morris, UIS or Benedictine has been extended to Feb. 10.

Tomorrow, 10th grade students with their guardians are welcome to attend a Pre Registration workshop in the SHS Commons at 6pm. The topics discussed will include CACC, course selection and sequencing, college readiness, and NCAA recruitment.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center Today from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. It is that time of year to start thinking about your Valentine. Carnations will be sold during both lunch shifts in the commons beginning Monday, January 23. Cost is $1. Flowers will be delivered February 10.

Teachers and staff can purchase tickets from Eric Koeppel unless a German student sells to you first. Delivery is Thursday, February 9, during both lunch shifts and after school til 4pm in the Commons. There will be a limited number of extra sandwiches and bread available for purchase during lunch shifts on February 9. Alert your friends, family, and colleagues! Attention German Club! We will be showing the movie “Bandits” in room 250 after school tomorrow. Please get a parent permission form from your German teacher. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Hope to see you there.

Attention Spanish Club members: A meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25 in the Commons. We'll be playing Bingo and discussing upcoming events. Come on down for food, drinks, and fun!

Spanish Club bowling is this Friday after school at Strike n' Spare West. See a Spanish teacher for a permission form. The form with a $2 refundable deposit is due by Thursday.
