Good morning Springfield High! Today is Tuesday, February 7 where successful Senators are appropriate: they use appropriate language, tone and volume and follow the school dress code. Thank you for Being A Senator!

ALL STUDENTS WHO HAVE SIGNED UP FOR THE NATIONAL MATH EXAM SHOULD REPORT IMMEDIATELY TO THE COMMONS.

JUNIORS AND UNDECIDED SENIORS: The following colleges and recruiters will be here on these dates:
Feb. 8 Air Force-lunch
Feb. 14 Univ. of Illinois, Springfield- Lunch
Feb. 20 SIU-Carbondale 1:35
Feb. 21 Benedictine-lunch, Truman State 12:45
JUNIORS, now is the time to be checking out these schools, hearing about requirements and deciding where you want to visit. Get a pass from Guidance or Mrs. Povse to attend.

Applications for the Lincoln Land Community College foundation scholarship are now available. The LLCC honors college application is also available for students who have a minimum ACT score of 25. These are due April 2. The deadline for the Focus on Your Future Scholarship for LLCC, Robert Morris, UIS or Benedictine has been extended to Feb. 10.

Simon Youth Foundation is offering a $1400 scholarship for students with financial need, strong academic performance, leadership skills and evidence of school and community involvement, March 1 deadline; Sigma Nu Fraternity is offering a $2500 scholarship for males attending Univ. of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, May 15 deadline; Mu Delta Lambda and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Scholarship for African Americans with a 2.75 GPA, Deadline April 30.

The Focus on Your Future Scholarship for students planning to go to Lincoln Land, Benedictine, Robert Morris or Univ. of Illinois Springfield is due to the Chamber of Commerce by this Friday, Feb. 10 at 5:00p.m. Students who plan to turn in this scholarship should have it to Mrs. Povse no later than Thursday, Feb. 9.

The Do Something Club is supporting the "Teens for Jeans" campaign sponsored by Aeropostale. The campaign is designed to get jeans in the hands of THE HOMELESS! Students & staff can donate any old jeans of any brand or any size for each pair of jeans you donate you receive a 25% off coupon for new AERO jeans! We are competing as a school in a nation-wide contest whereby the school with the most jeans wins $5000 & JEANS FOR EVERY STUDENT! Drop-off boxes can be found in each school office or main entrance. During African-American History month, we are “Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Oprah Winfrey” JOIN US! Write an essay. Make a poster. See the ads in the hallway. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes.

Listen up Sophomores & Juniors! CACC Spring Open House is Tonight from 5 - 7 PM. Come out to the center to explore exciting electives you can take as juniors and seniors! We offer 20 different classes with opportunities ranging from Auto Mechanics to Culinary Arts. See your Guidance assistant principal with questions.

ATTENTION CLASS OF 2013: Customized t-shirt orders are in! Pick them up in room 352 after school.

Attention all Freshmen: You have one more chance to order a class T-shirt or sweatpants. You can pick up an order form from the glass case in the hallway between Room 210 and 212. Order forms and money are due to Mrs. Pence or Mrs. Myers by February 8th. This will be our last order for the year.

ATTENTION SENIORS-last week someone turned in 2 college admissions envelopes without a name written on the inside flap. The student was applying to Bradley University & Columbia College, and the envelopes had stamps with a tiger on them. Please see Mr. Williams in the Guidance office ASAP.

Attention Class of 2014: The 2014 apparel has arrived! Please pick up your orders after school today in Mrs. Taft's room, 252.

Spanish Club members: Lots of Latas is back! Bring in canned foods to your Spanish class and compete for a chance to receive a pizza party! The class with the most cans will win. So don't be shy. Bring in cans to help those in need. Food will be donated to the Salvation Army. See a Spanish teacher or Spanish club officer if you have any questions.

On Saturday, the SHS Boys Swimming and Diving Team triumphed once again at Conference! They beat second place SHG by 123 points! This could not have been done with a collective team effort, including wins by our medley relay (Jake Hamill, Brinton Wilkey, Tayt Niedernhofer, and Scott Krehbiel), Timothy Miller 200 IM, Brinton Wilkey 50 free and 100 breaststroke, Matt Woodson, diving, Tayt Niedernhofer 100 free, our 200 free relay (Brady Burden, Scott Krehbiel Tayt, and Weston Stephens), Jake Hamill, 100 back, and our 400 free relay (Weston, Tayt, Jake and Brinton). Sectionals are in 2 weeks!

Congratulations to the SHS Wrestling Team for placing 3rd at Regionals. Wrestlers that placed at regionals include: Regional Champion Harrison Williams; 2nd-place winners Christen Hunt, Chase Dickerson, & Haratio Austin; and 3rd-place winners Chase Thompson, Kerry Montgomery, Alex Gelber, & Nick Casper. Come see them compete at the Sectional tournament in Mt. Zion this Friday evening & Saturday for a chance to go to state.
