Good morning Springfield High! Today is Wednesday, February 8 where successful Senators are appropriate: they use appropriate language, tone and volume and follow the school dress code. Thank you for Being A Senator!

JUNIORS, now is the time to be checking out these schools, hearing about requirements and deciding where you want to visit. Get a pass from Guidance or Mrs. Povse to attend.

Applications for the Lincoln Land Community College foundation scholarship are now available. The LLCC honors college application is also available for students who have a minimum ACT score of 25. These are due April 2. The deadline for the Focus on Your Future Scholarship for LLCC, Robert Morris, UIS or Benedictine has been extended to Feb. 10.

Simon Youth Foundation is offering a $1400 scholarship for students with financial need, strong academic performance, leadership skills and evidence of school and community involvement, March 1 deadline; Sigma Nu Fraternity is offering a $2500 scholarship for males attending Univ. of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, May 15 deadline; Mu Delta Lambda and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Scholarship for African Americans with a 2.75 GPA, Deadline April 30.

The Focus on Your Future Scholarship for students planning to go to Lincoln Land, Benedictine, Robert Morris or Univ. of Illinois Springfield is due to the Chamber of Commerce by this Friday, Feb. 10 at 5:00p.m. Students who plan to turn in this scholarship should have it to Mrs. Povse no later than Thursday, Feb. 9.

The Do Something Club is supporting the "Teens for Jeans" campaign sponsored by Aeropostale. The campaign is designed to get jeans in the hands of THE HOMELESS! Students & staff can donate any old jeans of any brand or any size for each pair of jeans you donate you receive a 25% off coupon for new AERO jeans! We are competing as a school in a nation-wide contest whereby the school with the most jeans wins $5000 & JEANS FOR EVERY STUDENT! Drop-off boxes can be found in each school office or main entrance. During African-American History month, we are “Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Oprah Winfrey” JOIN US! Write an essay. Make a poster. See the ads in the hallway. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes.

ATTENTION CLASS OF 2013: Customized t-shirt orders are in! Pick them up in room 352 after school.

Spanish Club members: Lots of Latas is back! Bring in canned foods to your Spanish class and compete for a chance to receive a pizza party! The class with the most cans will win. So don't be shy. Bring in cans to help those in need. Food will be donated to the Salvation Army. See a Spanish teacher or Spanish club officer if you have any questions.

AVANTI'S arrives tomorrow, Thursday, February 9. Pick up your order during both lunch shifts or after school until 4 p.m. Remember to bring your tickets to redeem for pre-sold gondolas or bread. There will be a limited number of extra gondolas and bread available for sale. $6 gondolas, $4 bread.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for students majoring in education; attending a historically black college and a general scholarship; Illinois Heartland Decorative Artists for talented art students; and Lake Home Owner's Association Sherel Nutt Memorial Scholarship-an essay on what you would do to improve Lake Springfield; the Orthopedic Center of Illinois Foundation renewable $1000 scholarship for students majoring in a health-related field. Reserve your table now and join the fun - the SHS Trivia Night is Friday, March 9th. Win a share of $1,000 in prize money, to be awarded to your favorite SHS sport, club or organization. Doors open 6p ~ Trivia at 7p. $100 per table of up to 10 players. Food and soda will be available for additional purchase.
