Good morning Springfield High! Today is Wednesday, February 15th; where successful Senators are appropriate: they use appropriate language, tone and volume and follow the school dress code. Thank you for Being A Senator!

JUNIORS AND UNDECIDED SENIORS: The following colleges and recruiters will be here on these dates:
Feb. 20 SIU-Carbondale 1:35
Feb. 21 Benedictine-lunch, Truman State 12:45
JUNIORS, now is the time to be checking out these schools, hearing about requirements and deciding where you want to visit. Get a pass from Guidance or Mrs. Povse to attend.

Applications for the Lincoln Land Community College foundation scholarship are now available. The LLCC honors college application is also available for students who have a minimum ACT score of 25. These are due April 2.

Sigma Nu Fraternity is offering a $2500 scholarship for males attending Univ. of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, May 15 deadline; Mu Delta Lambda and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Scholarship for African Americans with a 2.75 GPA, Deadline April 30.

SENIORS; Tyrian Masonic Lodge scholarship for students with financial need - $1000, renewable, Deadline April 2.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for students majoring in education; attending a historically black college and a general scholarship; Illinois Heartland Decorative Artists for talented art students; and Lake Home Owner's Association Sherel Nutt Memorial Scholarship-an essay on what you would do to improve Lake Springfield; the Orthopedic Center of Illinois Foundation renewable $1000 scholarship for students majoring in a health-related field. Reserve your table now and join the fun - the SHS Trivia Night is Friday, March 9th. Win a share of $1,000 in prize money, to be awarded to your favorite SHS sport, club or organization. Doors open 6p ~ Trivia at 7p. $100 per table of up to 10 players. Food and soda will be available for additional purchase. Reservation sheet is available on the SHS website or pick up one in the main office. Get your friends together and WIN!!

French Club will be selling, Mardi Gras grams for $1.00 all this week in the Commons. Send a friend a card and help the APL.

Spanish Club Members: Don’t forget that today is the last day to bring cans. The winning Spanish class will receive a pizza party. The lots of Latas donations will go to the Salvation Army.

Freshmen Boys basketball will play Lanphier for the City Championship tonight at 6 PM here in the New gym. $2 for students and $3 for adults.

Valentine's Day has come and gone, and now it's time to start thinking PROM! A committee of SHS parents is already working behind the scenes to plan hilarious entertainment and great fun for the After-Prom party at SHS. This is provided to students at no charge, so our success is dependent on support from SHS parents and the Springfield area business community. Attached are forms describing how you can donate your time, money, and/or prizes to contribute towards this event, which serves on average 400 students, and costs approximately $10,000. All parent and corporate donors will be recognized on our website as well. Thank you for your support!

The speech team had a great Sectionals meet in Benton, IL with 4 students breaking into the finals and with senior, Carly Piland, making it to State in Prose. Congratulations team and good luck this weekend at State, Carly.

There will be a "Do Something" Club Meeting on Monday, February 20, 7pm in room 150. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Williams.

The Lady Senator basketball team started Regional play by beating Jacksonville 69 to 40. SHS had three players in double figures led by Zahna Medley with 19, Courtney Pence chipped in 13 and Meghan Fetter had 12. Next up is the Regional Championship tomorrow night against Southeast at SHG's West Campus starting at 7:30.

There will be a wrestling meeting after school on Monday, February 20 in room 266. The meeting will be to discuss the Wrestling banquet. All wrestlers need to attend this meeting after school on Monday.
