Juniors and seniors interested in teaching: LLCC and Univ. of Illinois, Springfield have a program that can help you with the costs of a teacher education program. See Mrs. Povse or Mr. Crum for details. March 31 is the deadline.
COLLEGE BOUND SENIORS: If you and your parents have not filed the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) yet, see Mrs. Povse ASAP. Most colleges want those forms completed by March 1 to be considered for FREE MONEY FOR COLLEGE.
Seats are still available for the Western Illinois University trip on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Get a permission slip in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse. Permission slips are due at the end of the day this Thursday!

Senior men going to Univ. of Illinois, Urbana: Sigma Phi Epsilon is offering the Balanced Man scholarship for men who have excelled in the areas of scholarship, leadership, athletics and community service. See Mrs. Povse for application. Deadline is April 16.
The Springfield Urban League is sponsoring the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Campus Tour during spring break. Tentative dates are March 31-April 6. Cost is $450 payable in installments. Call Candace Silas at 544-0873 for more information.
Any 10th grader interested in attending the Regional Office Career and Technical Education Career Day on March 6 please pick up a permission slip and information in the Guidance Office. This event it limited to the first 30 students, and permission slips are due by Feb 24. No late permission slips will be accepted. Students must have 80% or higher attendance rate and be currently passing all your classes to attend.
SENIORS: Be mindful that March 1 is fast approaching. Many of the current scholarships have a March 1 deadline. Please get applications to Mrs. Povse in a timely manner so that transcripts can be prepared and postmarked on time.
The State Journal-Register will host an informational meeting at 6:30 P.M., Tuesday, Feb. 28th at the SJ-R building downtown Springfield for any high school student wanting to learn more about joining The Voice, its award-winning journalism program. Interested teens should RSVP their name, grade and school to email@example.com by 5P.M. Today. Applications will be available at the meeting or students may find them online at www.sj-r.com/voice.

SENIORS; Baby pictures can be brought to Mrs. Barkmeiers room 370, for the yearbook. The Senior signature page can also be signed starting today in the commons during lunch. After signing, the senior survey can also be picked up and filled out. It can also be picked up in Mrs. Barkmeier’s room 370. All 3 things are due no later than Wed, Feb. 22nd. The Do Something Club would like to thank all of the students, parents, & staff that donated jeans to the Teens for Jeans campaign! Thanks to your generosity, we collected 91-pair of pants; 7-pairs of shorts; and 1-jacket, for a total of 99 items. Thank you Springfield High!

The Lady Senator basketball team won the first game of the Sectional by beating state-ranked Champaign Centennial 72 to 53. SHS was led in scoring by Zahna Medley with a career-high 37 points and Anika Webster with 14. Next up is the Sectional final tomorrow in Taylorville against Chatham starting at 7:30.
