Good morning Springfield High! Today is Wednesday, August 29, 2012 where successful Senators are focused, alert, on task, and engaged in the classroom. Thank you for Being A Senator!

National Society Members- Next meeting is tomorrow, promptly at 3:30.

All SHS Parents of a choir student, the Noteables will be having their 1st meeting for the 2012-2013 school year tomorrow at 6pm in the choir room. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend to hear about all of the exciting things planned for Vocal Music this year!

SCRABBLE CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS: We will have our first ever, annual SCRABBLE TOURNAMENT here at Springfield High School on Saturday, September 15, in the Commons. If you are interested in helping, participating, or if you have any questions, please see Mr. Williams.

Be A Senator has 2 prime parking spots available for 1st quarter! You may buy a ticket for a chance to win one of the spots during both A lunch and B lunch from Ms. Greco in the commons. Tickets are 25 cents. There is no limit on the number of tickets you may buy. If you have any SHLotto cards that have not been redeemed, you may enter those into the drawing as well. We will have a drawing again for 2nd quarter at the end of 1st quarter. Winners will need to provide current driver's license, valid insurance card, and make/model/license plate information to Ms. Fisher in the main office.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., Sep. 25, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, Sep. 24. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! In September 2010, she received 3 units of blood through two life-saving transfusions! Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.

Applications for Spanish Club are now available. See a Spanish teacher today and plan on joining us for our first meeting Wednesday, September 19th.

Attention all 9th graders and any students new to District 186. Nurse Kim MUST have a physical and immunization record on file or you will NOT be allowed back to school starting October 15th. Please get all physicals & immunization records to Nurse Kim in room 167 ASAP!! Also if you have any medications either prescription or over the counter Nurse Kim MUST have a medication form filled & signed by your physician...this includes inhalers!! See Nurse Kim in 167 if you have any questions or need to pick up a medication form.

Chess Club: Are you interested in learning to play Chess? Maybe. Do you like suspenders? Probably. Are you looking for an excuse to hang out with Mr. Sanders? Of course! Then you should definitely come to Chess Club! We meet every Thursday from 3:30 - 4:30 in room 370. See you there.

ATTENTION CLASS OF 2013: Your T-Shirt Order Forms are Due Friday, September 7th! Return them to Ms. Davis in room 352 with payment asap. Go Seniors!!

Lincoln Land Community College is offering ACT test preparation courses this fall. Information on times and dates is posted in the glass case outside the Guidance Office and on the school website under Guidance/Special Programs.

SENIORS: The Wendy's High School Heisman scholarship is now available. Requirements are a "B" average, participation in one school-sponsored sport and leadership. Apply online at WendysHeisman.com October 2 is the deadline. Check out scholarships from ScholarshipExperts.com posted on the bulletin board between rooms 106 & 108.

SITE Club is looking for students interested in programming, engineering, electrical design, construction, marketing, and web design for our 2013 robotics team. We're holding an informational meeting Thursday after school in Ms. Fox's room.

There will be an open gym for any boy not in a fall sport interested in basketball today after school. Questions, see Coach Reed.

Attention girl basketball players not involved in a fall sport: there will be an open gym Tuesday after school. Meet in the annex and any questions see Coach Scheffler.

The Boys golf team swept their quadrangular match at Piper Glen last night, beating Glenwood by 6, SHG by 9, and Southeast by quite a few. Max Lister holed out from 150 yards for an eagle on his first hole and went on to claim medalist honors firing a one over par 37. Sam Funderburg carded a 39, Griffin Kopecky a 41, while seniors Mitchell Connolley, Jack Campas and Jack McCarthy all shot 42's. The Senators are now 6-0 on the season.

The Boys Soccer team improved to 4 and 1 with a 9 to 0 victory over Taylorville. Zephen Merreighn, Will Teichman, Bryant McLafferty, Matt Graham, Mickey Doe, Evan Kuhn and Caleb Cheung scored for the Senators. Jesse Cooper recorded the shut-out. The JV Soccer team defeated Taylorville 8 - 1. Jordan Pacha, Jack Sherrick, Ryan Hampsey, Petros Kristos, Alex Deleon, and Tyler Cronister scored for the Senators.
