Good morning Springfield High! Today is Wednesday, September 5, 2012 where successful Senators are respectful of self, others, and property! Thank you for Being A Senator!

Applications for Spanish Club are now available. See a Spanish teacher today and plan on joining us for our first meeting Wednesday, September 19th.

Attention all 9th graders and any students new to District 186. Nurse Kim MUST have a physical and immunization record on file or you will NOT be allowed back to school starting October 15th. Please get all physicals & immunization records to Nurse Kim in room 167 ASAP!! Also if you have any medications either prescription or over the counter Nurse Kim MUST have a medication form filled & signed by your physician...this includes inhalers!! See Nurse Kim in 167 if you have any questions or need to pick up a medication form.

ATTENTION CLASS OF 2013: Your T-Shirt Order Forms are Due Friday, September 7th! Return them to Ms. Davis in room 352 with payment asap. Go Seniors!!

Lincoln Land Community College is offering ACT test preparation courses this fall. Information on times and dates is posted in the glass case outside the Guidance Office and on the school website under Guidance/Special Programs.

Reminder to Senior English teachers: After taking attendance please send your seniors to the auditorium balcony each class period today for orientation with Mr. Crum and Mrs. Povse.

SCRABBLE CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS: We will have our first ever, annual SCRABBLE TOURNAMENT here at Springfield High School on Saturday, September 15, in the Commons. If you are interested in helping, participating, or if you have any questions, please see Mr. Williams.

All students interested in Engineering: The Engineering Explorers Post 6 will be having its first meeting on Sept. 12 from 6:00-7:30 at the Illinois Dept. of Transportation, 2300 S. Dirksen Parkway a $40 participation fee will be due that evening. Application requests or more information is available at Terrence.Fountain@illinois.gov

All students: If you have made a difference volunteering you can apply for the Prudential Spirit of Community awards. See the poster on the Scholarship bulletin board outside room 106.
Senior women interested in engineering. Purdue University is offering a free one day Exploring Engineering program. See details on the Special Programs page on the Guidance website.

SITE Club is looking for students interested in programming, engineering, electrical design, construction, marketing, and web design for our 2013 robotics team. We're holding an informational meeting Thursday after school in Ms. Fox's room.


FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., Sep. 25, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, Sep. 24. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! In September 2010, she received 3 units of blood through two life-saving transfusions! Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.

Attention Juniors and Seniors! Homecoming court elections will be held TODAY in the commons at lunch! Seniors may vote for 8 guys and 8 girls and Juniors may vote for 2 guys and 2 girls. Sophomores and Freshmen will be allowed to vote in a later election fro King and Queen only!

Any Sophomore or Junior interested in taking the PSAT need to come to the Guidance Office and sign up. The test will be given Wednesday, October 17th during periods 1-3. The deadline for registering in September 21st. There is a $17 fee (cash or check payable to Springfield High School).

Be A Senator will be selling slices of hot, delicious Papa John's pizza Tomorrow during both lunch shifts for $2 per slice in the commons. Pizza, Pizza, Pizza, Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow!!

Attn. Senators! Tomorrow is Redemption Day! Take your Shlotto cards to the commons during either lunch shift to claim your prize. Remember to put your name and teacher's name on the back because you might win a prize in the drawing on Friday! As always, Thank You for Being a Senator!

SHS Booster Club will be selling spirit wear at the September 11th home girls volleyball game and starting this Friday, at ALL home football games. Checks and cash accepted. GO SENATORS!!!

Attention, if you would like to join German Club please turn in your membership fee of $8 and the German Club form by Friday, September 7th. Please see a German teacher for more information.

The Boys Varsity soccer dropped to 4 and 2 losing to SHG in Penalty kicks. The JV team fell to 1-1 following a 5-0 loss to SHG.

The girls swimming and diving team was triumphant Saturday over Peoria Richwoods. This is the first time we have beat Richwoods in at least 6 years. Sophomore Annah Carney broke her own record in the 200 freestyle and was 8/100's off the 29 year old school record in the 100 Fly. Natalie Knox and Libby Opfer posted wins as well. The Senators swept all three relays to beat Richwoods 104-82. Come out and watch the girls in action this weekend at the Capital City Invite Saturday at Eisenhower Pool.
