Good morning Springfield High! Today is Wednesday, November 28, 2012 where successful Senators follow the classroom and school wide expectations and allow for learning by all throughout the building.

Juniors and undecided seniors: Western Illinois University has outstanding programs in sports broadcasting, construction management, forensic chemistry, emergency management, law enforcement and justice administration, meteorology, musical theater and supply chain management. If you are interested in these programs get a permission slip in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse for the WIU trip on December 6. Permission slips are due today.

REMINDER TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS: The first Financial Aid presentation of the year will be held Tonight at 6:30 in the Commons. Caitlin McLaughlin from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will be our presenter.

SENIORS: The following online scholarship applications are now available on the scholarship database: Burger King, AXA Achievement and AXA Achievement Community Scholarship, Greenhouse Scholars.

Showchoir is selling Texas Roadhouse Gift cards until tomorrow in increments of $15 $25 or $50. Money will be due at the time of ordering, and you will get the cards in the 1st week of December. Please make checks payable to SHS-showchoir. 10% of total sales will be donated to the showchoir.

Attention students & teachers: The SHS Do Something Club is hosting a Toy Drive for needy kids. SHS families in need will get first dibs at picking a toy, and remaining toys will be donated to Contact Ministries. No need to wrap the gift. Just choose & label the gift as boy or girl, and the age from zero to 15 years old. No Weapons or Violent Toys Accepted. Deadline to drop off a gift in the Main Office & Guidance Office is Tues, Dec 11.

The Junior class will be selling Papa John's Breadsticks tomorrow! Three breadsticks and sauce will be sold for a low price of $2.00. We have upped our order due to high demand so don't miss out!

Attention German Club! We will be showing the movie “Lautlos” in room 250 after school today. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Please ask a German teacher for a permission form. Hope to see you there!

Yearbook supplements for the 2011/2012 year can be picked up in room 370 after school.

There will be a short meeting today at 3:30 in room 521 for all girls interested in running track who are not out for a winter sport.

Yearbook will take NO SHAVE November photos directly after school, 3:30 sharp, Thursday, November 29 in front of the Main office, don’t forget to wear your No Shave November t-shirt! Please immortalize your distinguished November look between the pages of 2013 Capitoline forever!

SHS Scarlet Line Dance Team & JV Poms invite you to our Nelson’s Catering chicken dinner fundraiser this Saturday, December 1st, prior to the Varsity Boys first home basketball game. Tickets are $8 and Dine-in or Carry-out dinner includes: Half a roasted chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, corn & a roll. Served in the SHS Commons from 4:00 - 7:00pm, and will come in a to-go box w/ plastic ware. Purchase tickets from your favorite Poms member by Wednesday.

Hey Hey JSA! We will be having a debate today. Come for food, fun, and bring your friends!

All Girls interested in playing soccer who are not out for a Winter sport, should meet in room 350 after school on Today for a short informational meeting.

Attn. Senators! Thursday is Redemption Thursday! Take your Shlotto cards to the commons during either lunch shift to claim your prize. Remember to put your name and teacher's name on the back because you might win a prize in the drawing on Friday! As always, thank you for being a Senator!

The Lady Senator basketball team played well in the two middle quarters to get a double-digit lead and held on to beat Southeast 63 to 59. SHS had three players in double figures led by Mel Bremhorst with 13 points, Anika Webster and Meghan Fetter added 11. Next up for SHS is a home game tomorrow against Taylorville.
