Good morning Springfield High! Today is Wednesday, December 12, 2012 where successful Senators are appropriate: they use appropriate language, tone and volume and follow the school dress code. Thank you for Being A Senator!

SENIORS: The following scholarships are now available:
Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, deadline is Jan 21;
Lincoln Land Community College, deadline April 10;
National Defense Transportation Association, deadline March 1.
Check the scholarship database for qualifications for these scholarships.

Northwest Missouri State University will be in the Commons at lunch on December 13.

Seniors that may be exempt from taking final exams may pick up exam exemption forms in the Guidance Office.

Attention students & teachers: The SHS Do Something Club is hosting a Toy Drive for needy kids. SHS families in need will get first dibs at picking a toy, and remaining toys will be donated to Contact Ministries. No need to wrap the gift. Just choose & label the gift as boy or girl, and the age from zero to 15 years old. No Weapons or Violent Toys Accepted. Deadline to drop off a gift in the Main Office & Guidance Office is TODAY.

Juniors and Seniors: Permission slips for the next college bus trip, Eastern Illinois University, January 31st, are now available in the Guidance Office or on Mrs. Povse's door. Permission slips are due Jan. 17th.

T-shirts for the City Tournament are on sale. The set of 3 shirts will be sold during each lunch shift in the Commons through Dec. 19. The cost is again only $25 for the packet of 3 shirts. No extra shirts will be ordered so get your shirts now.

Seniors - Jostens will be back for a final in-school visit to receive your graduation orders. All orders must be turned into Jostens by this Friday. Jostens will be set up in the Commons before school only from 7:30am-8:20am. Extra ordering information is available in the guidance.

The choir department of SHS will be presenting their holiday concert tonight at 7 PM in the SHS auditorium. The concert is free and everyone will have an opportunity to buy a plate of homemade holiday cookies for $5. The choirs are under the direction of Mr. Damien Kaplan. Be sure to put this event on your calendar!

Seniors need to get their baby pictures in to Mrs. Barkmeier, room 370, by Dec. 19.

Attention German Club! Our next movie night will be today after school in room 250. We will be showing the German movie “Twelve Wishes”. Please see a German teacher for the parent-permission form. Snacks & drinks will be provided. Hope to see you there.

Hey Hey JSA, we will be having a debate today. We will be debating whether the Vikings or Bears can defeat each other in a colossal battle. Come for food, fun, and bring your friends.

The SHS Scholastic Bowl team captured their first ever Illinois State Championship in the fall edition of the Knowledge Master Open last week. The team finished first out of 23 Illinois teams and 44th out of 551 teams worldwide. The team consisting of 21 SHS students answered 187 of 200 questions correctly and finished with 1501 points out of a possible 2000. Adlai Stevenson High School from Lincolnshire finished 2nd in Illinois with 1444 points.

Last night, the Lady Senator basketball team beat SHG 70 TO 50. SHS was led in scoring by Anika Webster with 19 points, Ashton Williams added 14 and Courtney Pence chipped in 10. Next up for SHS is a home game tomorrow against Jacksonville.
