Good morning Springfield High! Today is Friday, January 25, 2013 where successful Senators are productive; they participate in class, complete the work, and turn in the work. Thank you for Being A Senator!

SENIORS: The following scholarships are now available from Mrs. Povse: Illinois Lumber and Material Dealers Association, William E. McElroy Charitable Trust for males going into medical field, and the Helen and June Hamilton Teacher's Scholarship.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS: Permission slips for the college bus trip to Illinois State University, Normal are now available from Mrs. Povse or in the Guidance Office. The trip is February 26 and permission slips are due Feb. 13th.

Buick Achievers Scholarship for students studying engineering, technology design or business, with an interest in automotive industry.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS: Admissions representatives from colleges and universities are beginning their spring visits. Sign up and get information about these schools.

Feb. 13- Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) 9:25
Feb. 14- Iowa Wesleyan
Get a pass in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse to attend these sessions.

The list of students going on the Eastern Illinois University field trip on Jan. 31 is posted outside of Mrs. Povse's office. If there are any students on the list who have changed their mind about going please let Mrs. Povse know as there are 7 students on a wait list.

SENIORS: Mrs. Povse is beginning to post the scholarship dollars you have been offered. If you have been offered scholarship dollars at any school, please let her know. It does not have to be at the school you intend to attend. ANY offer you get she wants to know about. Also let her know where you have been accepted too. Just leave a note in the mailbox on her door.

Sophomores: permission slips are available in the guidance office for the field trip to tour CACC. The field trip will be the morning of February 5 and permission slips are due by the end of the day on February 1.

SENIORS: The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority scholarships for African Americans are now available. Application is on the scholarship database. Deadline is March 1.

Do you want to participate in the Sister Cities student exchange program to Ashikaga, Japan? Then come to an information session January 30 or February 13 at 7:00 PM at Christ the King Parish Center.

Mike Mullin, the author of Ashfall and Ashen Winter, will visit Springfield High on Jan. 28. There will be a book signing. Prices are $8.75 for Ashfall in paperback or $13.50 in hardback. Ashen Winter is $14.50. See Mrs. Dahmane if you wish to purchase copies in advance. Exact change is appreciated.

Attention Literature Club! We are having a special session today to discuss Ashfall, by Mike Muller. This Is not a mandatory meeting, but we suggest that you come. See you there!

Please join us for the 1st Annual Springfield High School Showchoir Send-Off which will feature our own SHS showchoir and the showchoirs of Southeast High school, Glenwood High school, Franklin Middle school and Grant Middle school on Wednesday, January 30th at 6pm in the Auditorium. Donations will be accepted for Admission at a suggested amount of $3 per person or $5 per family. There will be raffles, snacks, and great performances from some of the best Springfield Area Junior High and High School Showchoirs.

NHS is collecting eyeglasses and children’s books in room 360 until Today to donate to a worthy cause.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., Jan. 29, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, Jan. 28. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! She received 3 units of blood through two life-saving transfusions! Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.

Party lighting, amazing music, food, friends, prizes and a long weekend! It’s EXTREME BOWLING from 10 p.m. to midnight Thursday, February 7, at Strike ‘n Spare West. There’s no school the next day, so plan to stay out late with your friends!! A $10 ticket gets you 2 hours of bowling, shoes and snacks!! Brought to you by the Class of 2016, this event is open to the entire school and lane space is limited, so get your ticket today, and DON’T MISS THE PARTY!!! Valentine Carnations sales will begin next week. You can purchase them in the commons before school and during both lunch shifts. Cost is $1 and they will be delivered during 3rd hour on February 14.

Spanish club will be playing Finding Nemo in Spanish on Tuesday, January 29th. We will meet in room 262 after school. Come for fun, food, and a movie!

The Lady Senator basketball team lost last night 73 to 63 to Southeast. SHS had three players in double figures with Anika Webster scoring 17 points, Courtney Pence added 16 and Meghan Fetter chipped in 11. Next up is a game next Tuesday at Jacksonville.
