Good morning Springfield High! Today is Monday, March 11, 2013 where successful Senators are focused, alert, on task, and engaged in the classroom. Thank you for Being A Senator!

JUNIORS and undecided SENIORS: Get signed up to hear the representatives from the following colleges:
March 12- Benedictine-lunch
March 15- MacMurray College-at lunch in the commons
March 20- Blackburn College 8:30
March 21- LLCC- at lunch in the commons

The Illinois Heartland Decorative Artists are offering a $1000 and a $500 scholarship for art students. Applications are available from Mrs. Povse and are due by April 1.

The Illinois Association of Minorities in Government is offering a scholarship for African American students. See the database for requirements. May 1 deadline.
Over the Moon Productions is offering a $1000 to a student who plans to further pursue a course of study in an aspect of theatrical arts, performance, design or technical. Get application from Mrs. Povse. May 6 deadline.

Sophomores...March 13th is the annual career fair at LLCC. Please stop by guidance and pick up a permission slip. We will leave at 11:15 and return at 2 pm. Permission slips are to be returned to guidance by the end of the day March 11th.

SENIORS APPLYING FOR THE MCCOURTNEY SCHOLARSHIP: Please turn in your application and essay to Mrs. Povse no later than Wednesday, March 27 so we can complete our section and make the transcripts. The applications will be mailed together and insured.

Sigma Nu Fraternity at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign is offering a $2500 scholarship to males with a 3.0 or higher GPA who are intellectually, morally, and physically capable of leadership. Applying does not obligate you to join this fraternity. Online at www.SigmaNuIllinois.com click on Pursuit of Excellence Scholarship. Deadline is May 22.

Attention current 11th grade students. The Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities, or CEO class applications are now available in the guidance office. All completed applications are due to Ms. Guerrero by Friday at 3pm in room 106.

AP Tests AP Tests will be given of May 6-17. There is an $89 fee per test for the exams (made payable to Springfield High). If the student qualifies for free and/or reduced lunch, see Mr. Crum about partial fee waivers. To register, students need to come to the Guidance Office with the check/cash and sign up. The Springfield High deadline is March 22, 2013 for registering. More information is available at http://www.collegeboard.org/ and look under the AP section.

Hey there, Seniors! Monday at lunch, swing by the Commons to sign the Senior signature page! Go Class of 2013!

The Spring Sport that will be highlighted next week will be softball. The Varsity Girls play today at 4:30 against Pawnee High School at the UIS softball diamonds. Come out to support the girls and have a chance to win a Cherry Berry gift card!

DO SOMETHING CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS: Are you interested in making a difference in your school & community? if so, get involved with the DO SOMETHING CLUB here at Springfield High School. There will be a DO SOMETHING CLUB Meeting, Mar 11, at 7pm in room 150 at Springfield High School. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Williams.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., March 26, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, March 25. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! She received 3 units of blood through two life-saving transfusions! Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.

Attn. Senators! Thursday is Redemption Thursday! Take your Shlotto cards to the commons during either lunch shift to claim your prize. Remember to put your name and teacher's name on the back because you might win a prize in the drawing on Friday! Due to supply and demand, we will only accept 5 SHLotto cards per day per student and only one of those can be a Monthly Special. Thank you for your understanding. Attention SITE Club: If you are planning on attending this weekend's Robotics Regional Competition in St. Louis, please pick up a permission slip from Ms. Fox in room 133 by Wednesday.
