Good morning Springfield High! Today is Wednesday, March 13, 2013 where successful Senators are focused, alert, on task, and engaged in the classroom. Thank you for Being A Senator!

JUNIORS and undecided SENIORS: Get signed up to hear the representatives from the following colleges:
March 15- MacMurray College-at lunch in the commons
March 20- Blackburn College 8:30
March 21- LLCC- at lunch in the commons

The Illinois Heartland Decorative Artists are offering a $1000 and a $500 scholarship for art students. Applications are available from Mrs. Povse and are due by April 1.

The Illinois Association of Minorities in Government is offering a scholarship for African American students. See the database for requirements. May 1 deadline.
Over the Moon Productions is offering a $1000 to a student who plans to further pursue a course of study in an aspect of theatrical arts, performance, design or technical. Get application from Mrs. Povse. May 6 deadline.

SENIORS APPLYING FOR THE MCCOURTNEY SCHOLARSHIP: Please turn in your application and essay to Mrs. Povse no later than Wednesday, March 27 so we can complete our section and make the transcripts. The applications will be mailed together and insured.

Sigma Nu Fraternity at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign is offering a $2500 scholarship to males with a 3.0 or higher GPA who are intellectually, morally, and physically capable of leadership. Applying does not obligate you to join this fraternity. Online at www.SigmaNuIllinois.com click on Pursuit of Excellence Scholarship. Deadline is May 22.

The Lincolnland Illini Club "Why U of I" essay contest/scholarship is now available.$1000, 200 words. Applications due May 17. See Mrs. Povse for application.

SENIORS : Mrs. Povse is taking a group of seniors to LLCC on Wed., March 27 from noon-2:00. The purpose of this visit is to familiarize potential students with Menard Hall, home to admissions, advising, placement testing and financial aid and to tour the Workforce Building which houses all the vocational/technical programs. Whether you plan to go to LLCC to get a certificate, an associates degree or to learn a skill this would be a good trip for you. Permission slips are on her door.

AP Tests AP Tests will be given of May 6-17. There is an $89 fee per test for the exams (made payable to Springfield High). If the student qualifies for free and/or reduced lunch, see Mr. Crum about partial fee waivers. To register, students need to come to the Guidance Office with the check/cash and sign up. The Springfield High deadline is March 22, 2013 for registering. More information is available at http://www.collegeboard.org/ and look under the AP section.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., March 26, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, March 25. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! She received 3 units of blood through two life-saving transfusions! Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.

Attn. Senators! Thursday is Redemption Thursday! Take your Shlotto cards to the commons during either lunch shift to claim your prize. Remember to put your name and teacher's name on the back because you might win a prize in the drawing on Friday! Due to supply and demand, we will only accept 5 SHLotto cards per day per student and only one of those can be a Monthly Special. Thank you for your your understanding. Attention SITE Club, if you are planning on attending this weekend's Robotics Regional Competition in St. Louis, please pick up a permission slip from Ms. Fox in room 133 by Wednesday.

Don't forget to pick up your Avanti's Gondolas and bread tomorrow, March 14, during both lunch shifts and til 4 p.m. in the Commons. Make sure to bring your tickets. There will be a limited number of Gondolas and bread to purchase. Gondolas are $7 and loaves of bread are $3.

Attention current senior NHS members, we have a meeting this Thursday the 14th. Please come to room 360 on A or B lunch or to the library immediately after school. Thank you!

If you are interested in umpiring little league baseball games this summer, Kids First Sports organization is hiring. You can pick up an application in the guidance office or from Mrs. Devlin.

Hey Seniors! You’ve got 1 more day to sign the signature page. Come to the commons during your lunch shift to sign the page.

The Girls’ varsity soccer team opened the season with a 9 to 0 victory over Lanphier. Julia Rosen, Sloan Chapman, Ali Peralta, Lyna Rehan, Sarah Cross and Madeline Wagner scored for the Senators. Katie Stuva recorded the shut-out. The JV won 3 - 0 over Lanphier. Megan McCarty, Riley Elliott, and Lexia Lansing scored for the Senators. Alyssa Jackson recorded the shut-out.

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming all next week. Come up to the library and check it out or shop online. All profits go to the English Dept. to support classroom libraries.
