Good morning Springfield High! Today is Tuesday, April 9, 2013 where successful Senators follow the classroom and school wide expectations and allow for learning by all throughout the building. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Memorial Medical Center announces its Student Volunteer Program for the summer, June 17-August 9. This program is open to juniors and seniors. Application, 2 letters of recommendation, essay on why you want to volunteer and interview. Applications are due April 26 and may be picked up from Mrs. Povse.

Scholarship for JUNIORS: Juniors who have at least a 2.7 GPA on a 4 point scale, who volunteer in the community, and who plan to attend an accredited college or university can apply for the Nordstrom Cares scholarship. Go to Nordstrom.com/scholarship and apply. Deadline is May 1.

Seniors: The Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Scholarship for girls is now available as well as the Juarez Latino Scholarship. Check the scholarship database for details.

Seniors who are planning to go to Lincoln Land Community College: The LLCC foundation scholarship is due this Wednesday, April 10. Be sure to get your counselor page and 2 recommendations done ASAP.

Seniors: As you receive your financial aid packages with scholarships please let Mrs. Povse know of your awards so your information can be included on the scholarship charts.

The "All Academy Night" for students and parents interested in the military academies (U.S. Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine, West Point, Naval or Coast Guard) will be held on April 23 at 7:00p.m. at Building P-48, Illinois Air National Guard base, Capital Airport. Reservations are required. E-mail brian.hodge1@ang.af.mil or call 757-1374 no later than April 16.

Attention sophomores, junior and seniors who are interested in teaching: Dr. Meeks from UIS will be here to discuss the Midstate Student Support program. This program assists interested in students with achieving their goal of being a teacher. Dr. Loretta Meeks will be here first hour on Wednesday, April 10 to explain the program to interested students. Please sign up in the guidance office before the end of the day Tuesday, April 9.

If you are interested in umpiring little league baseball games this summer, Kids First Sports organization is hiring. You can pick up an application in the guidance office or from Mrs. Devlin.

All parents of choir students are invited and encouraged to attend the Parent meeting this Thursday, April 11 at 6pm in the choir room! We will be discussing Noteable board members for next year as well as the end of the year activities.

New NHS members: if you HAVE NOT attended the first meeting, please attend the final meeting after school this Wednesday, April 10 in room 360. Bring your dues.

Congratulations to the Senior class for being the class to reduce tardies and truancies by the largest percentage from the first half of 3rd quarter compared to the second half of 3rd quarter. The freshmen reduced tardies/truancies 14%, sophomores' went down 17%, juniors' cut theirs by 19%, and the seniors, drum roll please, reduced their tardies by 22%. They will receive breakfast of a Mel-o-Creme donut, juice, and a banana during home room on April 10th. Keep up the good work; let's try to keep reducing tardies and truancies! As always, thank you for being a Senator!

Be A Senator will be selling hot, delicious Papa John's pizza for $2 per slice during both lunch shifts on Thursday in the commons. Pizza, Pizza, Pizza, Thursday, Thursday, Thursday!

Thursday is Redemption Day! If you have received Shlotto cards, please take them to the commons on Thursday during both lunch shifts to redeem them. Do not forget to sign the back of the card!

SHS Senators respect self, property and others. But which SHS class is the most respectful? The class with the fewest referrals for disrespect will win this competition. Stay tuned for further details!

The Lady Senators Track and Field team won the Lady Dragon Relays at Pekin Saturday, March 30th. Finishing in first place were: Distance Medley - Natalie Motor, Carrie Rolf, Mads Nelson, Aly Goff, varsity 4x100 - Michela Pattie, Miriam Agamah, Kyra Webster, Kierra Weir, varsity Sprint Medley - Christina Kropid, Kierra Weir, Michela Pattie, Ellie Hamill, 4x1600 - Natalie Motor, Mads Nelson, Meredith Wells, Aly Goff, High Jump Relay - Miriam Agamah, Bri Wilkinns, Alice Zavelsky, Liz Canum, F-S 4x200 - Michela Pattie, Danielle Junious, Michele Hoang, Ingrid Samuels, 4x400 - Christina Kropid, Kyra Webster, Miriam Agamah, Kierra Weir, Triple Jump Relay - Carrie Rolf, Kyra Webster, Bri Wilkins, Shade Odele.

The Lady Senators Frosh-Soph Track and Field Team won the nine team Lanphier Frosh- Soph Invitational Tuesday, April 2nd. Leading the Lady Senators with first place finishes were:
Kierra Weir (Long jump, 100, 200), and the 4x100 team of Michela Pattie, Danielle Junious, Michelle Hoang and Ingrid Samuels. Finishing second for the Lady Senators were: Mads Nelson (3200), Michela Pattie (100, 200), Carrie Rolf (800), Natalie Motor (1600), Kyra Webster (400), the 4x200 team of Danielle Junious, Michelle Hoang, Salena Moore, Ingrid Samuels, and the 4x400 team of Carrie Rolf, Mads Nelson, Ingrid Samuels, Kyra Webster.

Last Friday the Lady Senators Track and Field team finished third at the Granite City Invitational. The Lady Senators were lead by Natalie Motor's first place finish in the 3200. Taking second place finishes were Bri Wilkins - triple jump, Kierra Weir - 100, Miriam Agamah - 400, Christina Kropid - 800, Mads Nelson - 1600, 4x100 - Michela Pattie, Miriam Agamah, Kyra Webster, Kierra Weir, 4x400 - Miriam Agamah, Christina Kropid, Kyra Webster, Kierra Weir,
4x800 - Mads Nelson, Christina Kropid, Ellie Hamill, Aly Goff. Finishing in third place were Bri Wilkins - High Jump, Jillian Cole - pole vault, Michela Pattie - 100 and 200, Kierra Weir - 400.
