Attention 9th graders and all new students to SHS, you must have a new physical and immunizations on file with Nurse Kim. If you have not turned this information in yet please do so as soon as possible. Also if you take any medications either prescription or over the counter, you must supply the medication and you need a form signed by your parent or guardian and your physician. Please see Nurse Kim in room 167 if you need a medication form.

Attention Class of 2014! It's time to order senior class wear! We have a brand new design for shirts, crewnecks, and hoodies as well as sweatpants! Pick up an order today at lunch in the commons or anytime from Mrs. Taft in room 354 or Mrs. Johnson in room 262. Order forms are due today. Don't miss out!

Any senior student athlete willing to take a 5 minute anonymous survey please see Mr. Koger in room 110.

SENIORS: If you are planning to apply to Washington University, St. Louis and want a nomination for the Danforth scholarship(full or partial tuition), please let Mrs. Povse know ASAP. The nominations are due October 15.

Any student interested in taking the Preliminary SAT test, otherwise known as the National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test, should bring $17 to the guidance office to sign up. The first 100 students to do so will receive a free study guide. The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 11th. The test will be given in the Commons on Wednesday, October 16th.

Any junior or senior currently holding a position in student government who is interested in applying the United States Senate Youth Program which will qualify him/her for consideration for a $5,000 scholarship from the Hearst foundation should come to the guidance office for an application.

JUNIORS: Your orientation with Mr. Barnes and Mrs. Povse will be held Thursday, Sept. 19. Juniors with last names A-L and afternoon CACC and work program students will attend at 2nd hour. Juniors M-Z and morning CACC students will attend 5th hour. The meeting will be held in the auditorium and will last the entire class period.

We have 34 amazing singer/dancers in the IN Session showchoir, now we need a talented combo to back them up! We are looking fill some vacant spots in our combo for this year, and we NEED YOU! Last year with our 6 part band, we capture several 1st place awards in our division. This year we are looking to sweep at competitions and bring home all awards including Best combo award. We are looking for talented, reliable and responsible band players to take our showchoir to the next level. So, if you are interested in joining or need more information please stop by the choir room on Tuesdays and Thursdays nights (anytime from 6-8pm) and talk to the Director, Mr. Steven L. Robinson. Auditions for the combo will be on Tuesday, September 17th beginning at 5:30pm in the choir room.

Attention Seniors! All shirt order forms are due today! Be sure to turn in your order forms and money to Mrs. Taft in room 354, Mrs. Johnson in room 262, a class officer, or to the table in the commons today. All forms are due Wednesday by 3:30. Don't miss out!

'Interested in becoming an Engineer? Come Join Engineering Explorer Post 6, Wednesday September 18th from 6:00 to 7:30 at the IDOT office on South Dirksen to learn more about what it is like. More information can be found on the Guidance/Special Programs webpage.

Be A Senator has 2 prime parking spots available for 1st quarter! You may buy a ticket for a chance to win one of the spots during both A lunch and B lunch from in the commons Today thru Thursday. Tickets are 50 cents. There is no limit to the number of tickets you may buy. Names will be drawn on Friday and winners will be notified. If you have any SHLotto cards that have not been redeemed, you may enter those into the drawing as well. We will have a drawing again for 2nd quarter at the end of 1st quarter. Winners will need to provide current driver's license, valid insurance card, and make/model/license plate information to Mrs. Fisher in the main office.

The Springfield Junior Blues are in need of students to volunteer to work at home games to take/sell tickets, sell merchandise, etc. The students would be eligible to receive NHS or other group community service hours and would be given a food item, a drink and admission to the game. If interested, please contact Ms. Greco in room 169 for details.

DO SOMETHING CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS: Are you interested in making a difference in your school & community? if so, get involved with the DO SOMETHING CLUB here at Springfield High School. There will be a DO SOMETHING CLUB Meeting, Monday, September 16, at 7pm in room 150 at Springfield High School. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Williams.

9th grade students! Do you have dreams of becoming a physician? District 186 and SIU School of Medicine have partnered together for the P4 Physician Pipeline Preparatory Program. See Mrs. Gordy in the Guidance office if you are interested in learning more about the program. There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 18 at 1 PM. Participants must have a history of excellent academic performance and attendance and have a desire to pursue a career in the medical field.

Papa Johns breadsticks are back!! The senior class will be selling breadsticks this Thursday on both lunch shifts! Only $2 gets you three breadsticks and sauce! Don't miss out!

Have you ever been involved in a land war in Asia? Have your friends ever taken over your country while playing Risk and then laughed? Have you ever blamed your life’s problems on bad dice rolling? If you have said yes to any of these statements then you need to join the Historical Game Club. We meet during “A” and “B” lunches Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in Room 328. See Mr. Taylor in Room 328 for details.

Attention girl basketball players: there will be no open gym on Tuesday due to the heat. We will resume on Thursday.

Attn. students who ordered PE clothes - your clothes have arrived. Please pick them up in room 169.

If your parents have returned a free bus form please check in room 169 to see if your tickets are in.

TODAY is your last day to order Avanti’s gondolas or loaves of bread. Purchase tickets from a German student or Herr Koeppel. Gondolas $7 and Loaves of Bread $3. Delivery is Thursday, September 19, during both lunch shifts and until 4 p.m. in the Commons. Don't miss out! Questions, contact Sabrena Campbell, 691-5401.

French Club will be having its Back-to-School Party this Monday, Sept. 16th after school from 3:20-4pm. We will meet outside, on the front lawn. Please bring a drink! You must have already joined French Club to attend---see Mrs. Boltz in Room 268 to join.

Spanish Club applications & money are due THIS Friday, Sept. 13 to a Spanish teacher. You must be a member of the club to participate in all meetings and events. Pick up and return an application from a Spanish teacher in room 260 or 262. Anyone at SHS can join Spanish Club.

Are you interested in technology, engineering, or robotics? If so, SITE Club is holding its first meeting of the year tomorrow, August 11 in Ms. Fox's room after school.

The Senator volleyball had a big conference win last night defeating Jacksonville 25.23, 25-18. Way to go ladies!! They are now 8-1 and play away against Bloomington High School this Thursday and then are in a Lincoln tournament this weekend.

The Boys Soccer team improved to 5 and 1 with a 3 to 1 victory over SHG. Zephen Merreign, David Sias, and Evan Kuhn scored for the Senators. The Boys play Taylorville Thursday at Lee Field game time is 6 PM.
