'Interested in becoming an Engineer? Come Join Engineering Explorer Post 6, Wednesday September 18th from 6:00 to 7:30 at the IDOT office on South Dirksen to learn more about what it is like. More information can be found on the Guidance/Special Programs webpage.
Any junior or senior currently holding a position in student government who is interested in applying the United States Senate Youth Program which will qualify him/her for consideration for a $5,000 scholarship from the Hearst foundation should come to the guidance office for an application.
9th grade students! Do you have dreams of becoming a physician? District 186 and SIU School of Medicine have partnered together for the P4 Physician Pipeline Preparatory Program. See Mrs. Gordy in the Guidance office if you are interested in learning more about the program. There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 18 at 1 PM. Participants must have a history of excellent academic performance and attendance and have a desire to pursue a career in the medical field.
JUNIORS: Your orientation with Mr. Barnes and Mrs. Povse will be held Thursday, Sept. 19. Juniors with last names A-L and afternoon CACC and work program students will attend at 2nd hour. Juniors M-Z and morning CACC students will attend 5th hour. The meeting will be held in the auditorium and will last the entire class period.
Any students interested in a career in health care should come to the guidance office to pick up information on the Memorial Explorers Program. The program consists of 6 sessions during which participants will learn about different careers in health care related fields.
We have 34 amazing singer/dancers in the IN Session showchoir, now we need a talented combo to back them up! We are looking fill some vacant spots in our combo for this year, and we NEED YOU! Last year with our 6 part band, we capture several 1st place awards in our division. This year we are looking to sweep at competitions and bring home all awards including Best combo award. We are looking for talented, reliable and responsible band players to take our showchoir to the next level. So, if you are interested in joining or need more information please stop by the choir room on Tuesdays and Thursdays nights (anytime from 6-8pm) and talk to the Director, Mr. Steven L. Robinson. Auditions for the combo will be on Tuesday, September 17th beginning at 5:30pm in the choir room.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., September 24, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, September 23. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! The Lady Senator Volleyball team won the Lincoln tournament this weekend advancing their record to 13-1. They defeated East Peoria, Quincy Notre Dame and Normal West. The girls play Chatham away tomorrow night, Normal West away Wednesday and SHG away this Friday. Come give the girls your support.
Attention German Club! We will be showing the movie “Run Lola Run” in room 250 after school on Wednesday, September 18. Please download the parent-permission form from the German Club website and turn it in to a German teacher by Wednesday. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Hope to see you there.
Sophomore Class of 2016 we will have a full class meeting during both A and B lunch on Wednesday. Meetings will be in Mr. Kramer's room, 326. We will be discussing hall way decorations, volunteering, and apparel designs. We are the only undefeated class with hallway contest in the building, come help us keep it that way!
The Cross Country team competed in the Lanphier Invite on Saturday at Lincoln Park. The Varsity Girls team finished 1st out of 16 teams. Natalie Motor, Mads Nelson, and Aly Goff all finished in the top 10. Catie Goriszewski was top finisher in the girls JV race for SHS. The Varsity Boys team finished 2nd out of 18 teams. Tyler Owens was top finisher for SHS. The Freshmen Boys team finished 2nd Peyton Fine was the top finisher for SHS. Evan Northup was the top finisher in the Boys JV race for SHS.
