SENIORS: Check out the scholarship database for numerous scholarships that are due in January. Get a head start on these applications during break.
SENIORS: If you are planning to apply to Lincoln Land Community College you can do so in an Admissions Workshop on January 28th, 3rd hour in the SHS library. Our LLCC admissions representative will be here on that day to walk you through the admissions process. Sign the list on Mrs. Povse's or Ms. Guerrero's door before Jan. 22. If you know your major you can mark that and the rep will bring corresponding materials.
The Helen and June Hamilton teacher's scholarship and the William McElroy scholarship for males in pre-med or science are now available on the database. Paper copies available from Mrs. Povse. Applications are not due till April 1.
The Illinois Dept. of Transportation and its Engineering Explorers Post is hosting a College Night, Jan. 8 from 5:30-7:30 at the IDOT building at 2300 S. Dirksen Parkway. Check out the schools who will be represented on the flyer outside Mrs. Povse's office.
The Lincoln Land Community College Foundation scholarship is now available on the database or from Mrs. Povse. Deadline is March 3. This is also the application for the LLCC Honors Program.
We will be having a Sophomore assembly on Wed, Jan. 15, during the homeroom period, in the Auditorium. Please let me know if you meet with your homeroom in the Auditorium, and your homeroom is not for sophomores.
Also we will be taking a group of sophomores to CACC for a tour on Friday, Jan. 17. we will be meeting at 9am and returning during 4th period. Sorry for the inconvenience, but we have to do this prior to registering students for their 2014-15 classes, which will begin the following week for sophomores. Thanks.

The Young American’s Music Outreach Tour is coming to Springfield January 19-21, 2014. Students in grades 4-12 will work together with the Young Americans in putting together a show that will be held on January 21 at Springfield High School. Registration forms are available from Mr. Kaplan. There are a limited number of spots available.
Attention Seniors: Quarter-zips have arrived! If you did not pick up yours before break, please pick it up from Mrs. Taft in room 354 this week!
Attention Class of 2017 the deadline for class wear order forms has been extended to January 6, 2014.

Remember to put your name and teacher's name on the back because you might win a prize in the drawing on Friday! Due to supply and demand, we will only accept 5 SHLotto cards per day per student and only one of those can be a Monthly Special. Thank you for your understanding. If you don't want to redeem them for what is under the scratch-off sticker, make sure your name and teacher's name are on the card and put them in grade appropriate can to be in the drawing for $25. Brrrrr! Baby, It's Cold Outside! If you drive to school but have to park so far away your toes are frozen when you get here then you need to buy a chance to win one of the 2 choice BAS spots available for 2nd semester for licensed drivers who have a car and insurance. Chances are $1 and will be sold by Ms. Greco Monday - Thursday during both A lunch outside room 103 and B lunch in the cafeteria. Winners will get to park in the spot for the rest of the semester and will be notified on Friday. If the winner currently has an SHS spot, that spot may not be transferred to another student.

Any girl not in a winter sport that is interested in playing softball, there will be an informational meeting this Friday, January 10th after school in room 116. See Mr Koger with any questions.
Congratulations to the Scholastic Bowl team for finishing 5th in the uber-competitive division of the New Trier Varsity tournament on December 21st. On the way to their strongest finish at the event the team defeated the A team from the Illinois Math and Science Academy. IMSA was ranked first in the state and 5th in the country heading into the event. This marks the first victory over the top team in the state in the history of the program.
