SENIORS: It is FAFSA time. What does that mean? It means that for you to get FREE money for college or technical school you must fill out the FAFSA document online. Go to FAFSA.GOV, use your last year's tax information and then update it when you/your parents get this year's done. It is important to get this done ASAP if you want to get in line for the free money.
To get your attention and to help you learn what the letters F-A-F-S-A stand for, Mrs. Povse presents this challenge: Write your name on a piece of paper and the words Free Application for Federal Student Aid, of course the meaning of FAFSA. Put that paper in the envelope taped to Mrs. Povse's door Room 153 A). A drawing for $25 cash will be announced on Thursday, Jan. 30.
Males who are applying for FAFSA and who are 18 must also register with the Selective Service System. Go to sss.gov and register.
The scholarships managed by the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln are now available on the scholarship database. These are both financial need based as well as merit or service based. All CFLL scholarships are due March 1.
The Sharon Miller Memorial Scholarship for seniors who will be majoring in education is now available. Deadline is March 14. The Illinois Municipal Utilities Association and CWLP are partnering for a $500 scholarship essay contest. Deadline is March 7. These scholarship applications are on the database.
Mrs. Eslahi needs dancers for this year's Black History Program. If you can dance or can learn a "modern" dance, see her in room 254.

Oh My God, Oh my God you guys! Round 2 of auditions for Legally Blonde the Musical are happening tonight in the auditorium, starting at 3:45pm. If you weren’t able to take part in last night’s auditions, then tonight is your night. Being a part of the SHS musical is always a fantastic experience. You should totally come and join us!

Seniors, You have until January 22nd to get your portrait taken at Grussenmeyer's Photography on Durkin Drive. The cost is $15.00. You also have until January 22nd to put your baby picture in this year's yearbook. The cost is $10.00. Turn in your picture and money to Mrs. Eslahi, room 254.
Groups, clubs and organizations will take their pictures on January 29th. See your advisor if you have questions.
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. The annual Valentine Carnations sales will begin next week. Show that someone special that you care by pre-ordering a carnation for them. Cost is $1 and students will be selling them before school and during both lunch shifts in the commons.
FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., January 28, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, January 27. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! Winter Workouts with Coach Luke will begin next week on Wednesday, January 22nd. Workouts will run before school from 7-8:05am and after school 3:30-4:35pm Monday thru Thursday. Please be there ready to go 5 minutes before starting time. Any questions, see Coach Luke.
2013 Football Awards Night for Players and their Parents will be held Sunday, January 26th in the SHS Commons from 6:30-8pm. See Coach Luke for a sign-up sheet that is due by Friday, January 24th. You must have ended the year in good standing on the team to attend. If you do not turn in the sign up sheet you will not be allowed to attend. Again, see Coach Luke for a sign-up sheet.
Attention all boys not involved in a winter sport: The first day of Boys track practice for this Spring will be Monday January 27th after school. BREAK A LEG to the “IN Session” Showchoir as they start their competition season, tomorrow at the 35th annual Mt. Zion Midwest Invitational in Mt. Zion, IL. They will be performing at 9am. They will be competing in the small group division! The director and staff are so proud of you! SHS students please show your support to the fellow members in the group, and wish them the best of luck!
The Lady Senator basketball team jumped out to a 12 to 1 lead and beat Taylorville 54 to 39. SHS had three players in double figures led by Anika Webster with 17 points. Julia Rosen made five 3-pointers for 16 points and Courtney Pence added 10. Next up is a home game tomorrow night against Lincoln with the Varsity game starting at 6:30.
