Seniors: Be aware that the March 1 scholarship deadline is Saturday. If you need transcripts sent or uploaded see Mrs. Povse by Thursday. The Lincoln Land Community College scholarship is due on March 3 which is a day off school so those should be turned in by Thursday as well.
LLCC has re-scheduled its campus visit day to this coming Monday, March 3. There are 2 sessions to choose from. 9:00-11:30 or 5:00-7:30. Register at LLCC.edu

SENIORS APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS: If you are unable to access an application from the scholarship database please let Mrs. Povse know so that she can correct it. The link for the Scottish Rite scholarships has been corrected. If you are applying for the Community Foundation of the Land of Lincoln scholarships you need to let Mrs. Povse or Ms. Guerrero know to upload your transcript.
Juniors. Are you interested in receiving up to 12 college credits prior to graduating from high school? Are you interested in a $2,000 per year housing scholarship for college? Then you may be interested in attending the Commonwealth Honor's Academy.
Attn Students Class of 2017, a parent and guardian meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 4 from 6-7:30 pm in the SHS Commons. Ms. Guerrero will be discussing topics such as how to develop your high school plan, college readiness, and 10th grade standardized testing. Students must have a parent or guardian present to attend.
The Springfield Urban League is sponsoring the annual tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities during our spring break, April 13-19. $500 includes luxury bus, hotel, some meals. Details are available from Candace Silas 544-1380 or from Mrs. Povse. Payment due by March 1.

Make Plans to attend the 7th Annual Red and Black Gala, hosted by the Springfield High Booster club, scheduled for March 8th at the Springfield Hilton. All parents, alumnae and friends of SHS are invited to attend. Last year this one night netted close to $45,000 to support the many student clubs, athletics and other extracurricular activities. This is a great event and a wonderful place to connect with other SHS families and supporters and support these extra-curriculars. There will be many Auction items and various side events of all price ranges. Reservations are due by February 27th. Our kids are worth it!
ALL SOPHOMORES: We will be taking a group of sophomores to Lincoln Land for Career Day on the morning of Tuesday, Mar. 11. Students will have an opportunity to meet over 50 business representatives and ask valuable career questions. Permission slips are available in the Guidance Office. Only the 1st 90 students to return permission slips will attend. Signed permission slips must be returned to the Guidance Office by TUE, Mar. 4, 3:30pm.

Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers to walk with their playhouse float in the St. Patrick's Day Parade, Saturday, March 15, 11:45 a.m. Every parade volunteer will receive a free Habitat t-shirt. They are also looking for volunteers to help with their upcoming Youth Build (House #94), and they are offering a $1,000 scholarship for the student volunteer with the most work hours. Black History Month Trivia, if you know the answer, please see Mr. Medard in room 326 1st hour. Who Am I? Born in 1867 in Richmond, Virginia, I became a civil rights activist and leader in my community. In 1903, I helped start and manage St. Luke’s Penny Savings Bank, which helped to provide loans and financial security to African Americans who were denied service from white banks. In addition, I continued to serve my community by holding positions in the NAACP and Urban League.
