Good morning Springfield High! Today is Tuesday, March 25, 2014 where successful Senators are focused, alert, on task, and engaged in the classroom. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Juniors and undecided seniors: Pay attention to the college and military recruiter listing in the glass case outside of guidance. Plan to get a pass to attend schools you might be interested in.

College Recruiters- Get a pass in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse to attend.

Permission slips for the SIU-Edwardsville trip on April 1 are now available on Mrs. Povse's door or in the Guidance Office. Slips for this trip are due March 26.

The Western Illinois University bus trip has been re-scheduled for May 7. A few additional seats are available for this trip. See Mrs. Povse in 153A for a permission slip. Students who previously signed up are good to go.

Congressman Aaron Schock will be hosting an informational meeting for the five U.S. Service Academies on Tuesday, April 22 at 7:00p.m. at the Springfield Air National Guard. If you are interested in the Air Force, Merchant Marine, West Point, Naval or Coast Guard Academies you should RSVP by April 15 to renard.jackson@ang.af.mil

Juniors. Are you interested in receiving up to 12 college credits prior to graduating from high school? Are you interested in a $2,000 per year housing scholarship for college? Then you may be interested in attending the Commonwealth Honor's Academy. Any Junior interested in attending The Commonwealth Honor's Academy at Murray State University this summer should see Mr. Barnes for more information.

The Springfield Urban League Scholarship is now available on the SHS scholarship database or from Mrs. Povse. Deadline is April 11. The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority scholarship is now available on the database or from Mrs. Povse. Deadline is March 29. The Family Service Center is offering a scholarship to students who are adopted or who were or are in foster care. Deadline is April 29th.

Reminder: the Plato and Flora McCourtney renewable scholarship for students entering a scientific or technical field are due to Mrs. Povse today.

Attention seniors. Graduation announcement order pick up from Jostens will be before school, 7:30am to 8:15am, and during A and B lunches on March 27 in the Commons.

Blood drive is being held today in the Blood Mobile outside the commons.

Breaking news! Applications are now being accepted to enroll in newspaper class for next year. If you like writing, taking pictures, interviewing, deadlines and being published, this class may be the perfect fit for you! You must pick up an application and return it to Ms. Negele in room 362 by Friday, March 28. Enrollment in this spectacular class is based on the application and acceptance so get your application turned in soon and join the newspaper family!

SHS book fair is here! Stop by the library and browse. The proceeds go to stock the classroom libraries with great reads all year long.

The lost and found in room 169 will be taken to goodwill on Monday the 31st. If you have lost a coat and would like to check it out, come on down.

The stage is set for the SHS production of “Legally Blonde The Musical” on March 28th and 29th at 7:30 p.m. and March 30th at 2:00 p.m. in Schnirring Auditorium. Tickets are only $5 for students and $8 for adults and are on sale now. Tickets are available in the main office. Get yours today.

Attention German Club! It's movie time! Please join us for the German movie "The Wedding Party" in room 250 after school on Wednesday, March 26. The parent-permission form can be found on the German Club website. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Hope to see you there.

Attention Spanish Club members! Free bowling this Friday, March 28 from 3:30-5 at Strike N' Spare West. Pick up your permission slip from a Spanish teacher today. Snacks will be provided.

Westwoods is back! The Class of 2016 will be selling Westwoods wings in the commons during both lunch shifts this Thursday. We ordered twice as many as last time so there are lot to go around. Westwoods wings this Thursday for lunch.

Tryouts for the 2014-2015 SHS Cheerleading squads are approaching. Tryout packets can be picked up in the main office or from Coach Povse in room 156. The tryout process will begin with a mandatory tryout meeting Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 5:30pm in the SHS Commons. This is an informational meeting for parents and candidates that will provide all the details of the 2014-2015 season.The meeting is mandatory for every candidate and her parents for the 2014-2015 squads. All candidates are required to attend. Any questions please contact Coach Povse.

The Lady Senators competed in the Lady Maroons Last Chance Invitational at IWU last night and qualified three relays to the Illinois Prep Top Times Meet at IWU this Saturday. Joining Sarah Sepanski who already qualified in the 60 and the long jump and Aly Goff in the 800, will be the 4x200 team of Michela Pattie, Ingrid Samuels, Kyra Webster, and Kierra Weir (1:48.72), the 4x400 team of Sarah Sepanski, Carrie Rolf, Kierra Weir, and Kyra Webster (4:10.2), and the 4x800 team of Mads Nelson, Carrie Rolf, Ellie Hamill, and Aly Goff (10:02.93). All three relays finished in first place and the 4x400 and 4x800 teams set meet records. Reilly Stiver placed second in the 400 and ran a PR of 1:03.7. Mads Nelson placed 6th in the 1600 with a time of 5:36.8.
