Good morning Springfield High! Today is Wednesday, October 15, 2014 where successful Senators are focused, alert, on task, and engaged in the classroom. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Juniors and Seniors: College and military recruiters will be visiting SHS. Look at the schedule outside Mrs. Povse's office, room 153A or listen to the morning announcements to see if you are interested in attending. These schools will come once in the fall and then possibly again in the spring. If scheduled during a class period you must get a pass in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse to attend. If scheduled during lunch you do not need a pass. The representative will be at a table in the Commons.

SENIORS: October is Illinois College Application Month. We challenge all seniors to get their college applications completed this month.

Senior Portraits, which WILL BE included in this year's yearbook, must be taken at Class Act Photography located 484 South Durkin Drive. Seniors should call them at 787-4947 to make their appointments for the portraits, which cost $15. To be included in this year's yearbook, the portraits must be taken no later than December 12, 2014.

SENIORS: If you plan to apply to Eastern Illinois University here's a way you can do it for FREE! The EIU admissions officer will be here on November 18th to do on-site admissions. You will need to get a paper application from Mrs. Povse, fill it out and turn it back in to her. She will set appointments on the 18th with Mr. Sanders. We will have your official transcripts with test scores ready as well. He will also notify you of scholarship eligibility on that day. Save the $30 application fee and sign up with Mrs. Povse now.

Sign up for the Read for a Lifetime program by Oct. 17 and get rewarded for reading the best new teen books of the year. See Mrs. Dahmane in the library for details.

Now's your chance to win a free yearbook! Every Friday in October there will be a raffle contest in the commons at lunch, where you can buy a ticket for $2. There will be 4 winners, one for each class. Don't forget!

High Pride shirts are in. Stop by Coach Reed’s room, room 228, to pick yours up.

There will be a meeting for all current and potential boys swimming and diving team members and parents on Monday, October 20 at 7 PM in the Commons.

Avanti's Gondolas and bread will be here tomorrow, Thursday. Remember to redeem your ticket for a delicious Gondola or loaf of bread. Available for pick up during both lunch shifts and until 4 pm in the Commons. There will be a limited number of Gondolas $7 and bread $3 to purchase.

Everyone loves reading! Come meet us in Lit Club this FRIDAY, Oct. 17, after school as we discuss some stellar books. Last month's book, The Giver, will be discussed and we will vote on our next book. This Friday, room 406... because reading is awesome. And yes, we said Friday.

The volleyball team went 4-1 on Saturday taking 3rd in the Quincy tournament. Mady McCarty and Courtney Pence were named to the All-Tournament Team. The team defeated Peoria Richwoods last night bringing their record to 25-4. There are only 2 home games left his season. One of them is tomorrow night against Williamsville at 7pm. It is our "Think Pink Night" so wear pink to the game. There will be a bake sale and all proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. We will also be selling City Champs T-shirts for $10. Tuesday is senior night. Come support the girls for their last 2 home games.
