Good morning Springfield High! Today is Monday, November 10, 2014 where successful Senators are respectful of self, others, and property! Thank you for Being A Senator!

Juniors and Seniors: College and military recruiters will be visiting SHS. Look at the schedule outside Mrs. Povse's office, room 153A or listen to the morning announcements to see if you are interested in attending. These schools will come once in the fall and then possibly again in the spring. If scheduled during a class period you must get a pass in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse to attend. If scheduled during lunch you do not need a pass. The representative will be at a table in the Commons.

Reminder to juniors and seniors: We will be having Financial Aid Night next Thursday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 in the commons. Our presenter will give an overview of the financial aid process. Grants, scholarships, student loans and FAFSA will be covered at length. Come with your parents or guardian.

Senior Portraits, which WILL BE included in this year's yearbook, must be taken at Class Act Photography located 484 South Durkin Drive. Seniors should call them at 787-4947 to make their appointments for the portraits, which cost $15. To be included in this year's yearbook, the portraits must be taken no later than December 12, 2014.

Do you have at least a 21 ACT (or potential to get that score if you haven't tested yet) and need money for college? On November 12th representatives from the U.S. Navy will present information on the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) scholarship during 7th hour. If you are interested please sign up with Mrs. Povse.

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT! Get your Dodgeball registrations turned in by 3:30 with your $30 team entry fee! Registration at the door tonight is $35 per team.

Looking for an exciting travel opportunity with many educational opportunities? Join Mr. Telger and his crew for a European excursion that will cover three European countries in ten days this June. We will visit Germany, Switzerland, and Italy during this trip, and see the many fascinating sites along the way. For more information... see Mr. Telger in room 312.

Class of 2016 - Apparel order forms are here. See Mr. Kramer in Room 326 or a class officer to get one. All orders need to be turned in to Mr. Kramer and will be due by Wednesday, November 12.

Class of 2017 - Apparel order forms are here. See a class officer or stop by Room 130 to get an order form. All orders need to be turned in to an officer and are due by Friday, November 14.

¡¡Atención! The Spanish Club will be selling refrigerated tubs of cookie dough through Friday, November 14th. The tubs start at $13. Varieties include chunky chocolate chip, m&m, sugar, peanut butter cup, monster and many more. Please see a member of the SHS Spanish Club or Mr. Reichert for questions. ¡Muchas gracias!

Achtung, Achtung German Club! We will be having our next German movie night on Thursday, November 13 in room 250. Please get your parents' permission to watch the movie. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Hope to see you there.

Attention German Club and Spanish Club! If you have signed up for Capture the Flag, please come to an important meeting after school on Wednesday, November 12 in room 250. We need to go over the rules, parent involvement, etc. in order to be able to play. See you there.

Best Buddies will be having a meeting in Room 124 on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 3:17. We will discuss plans for the year as well as projects. If you cannot attend but are interested then please see Miss Maloney to sign up.

Today is the first day of wrestling practice. Meet downstairs in the weight room. If you have yet to do so, please bring your permits and physicals!

Congratulations to the Speech & Acting Team on their successful first tournament of the season at Normal West. The team got 4th place out of 22 participating teams. On the varsity team, Anna Flinn came in 7th in Original Oratory, Emma Shaeffer finished 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation, and Jakob Hankins finished 2nd in Humorous Interpretation and was Tournament champion in Prose Speaking. Many on the JV Team broke into JV finals with Jakob Robinson being the JV Champion in Declamation Speaking and Matt Harmon the JV Champion in Extemporaneous Speaking. Congratulations to the entire team. We have a team meeting right after school today. We’ll see you all there.

Mr. Finnell, Mr. Berger, Mr. Taylor, Mr. Hull, and Ms. Troike want to thank the 130 students who rode the fan buses Friday for their good behavior and school spirit. It was a fun trip, thank you.

The Boys Soccer team finished 3rd in the State Tournament with a 1-0 victory over St. Viator. Kaleb Cheung scored the game winner with 7 minutes left. Evan Wright recorded the shut-out. The team finished a 26 and 4 record.
