Good morning Springfield High! Today is Tuesday, January 13, 2015 where successful Senators are appropriate: they use appropriate language, tone and volume and follow the school dress code. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Seniors: The due date for senior portraits and senior baby pictures has been extended to January 30. Take your baby picture and ten dollars to Mrs. Eslahi in room 254. Get your portrait taken at Grussenmeyer Photography, 484 South Durkin Drive. The cost is fifteen dollars.

Seniors: There is an opening for 1 senior student to become a Student Council Representative. If you are interested then please see Miss Maloney today, Wednesday or Thursday to pick up a packet. Details will be given to you at that time. Get involved and get a packet!!

Attention potential world travelers!! This week is your last chance to sign up for the Germany, Switzerland, and Italy trip for this coming June. For more information about the trip, stop by Mr. Telger's in room 312. Don't miss this great opportunity to learn about three wonderful countries and take a trip that you will remember for the rest of your life.

SENIORS: January is FAFSA month. FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. You and your parent/guardian must complete this application online to receive free money for college or technical school. We will be holding a FAFSA line-by-line presentation on Thursday, January 15 at 6:30 in the commons.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., January 20, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch-in the Commons, before school or after school-in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Friday, January 16. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! She received 3 units of blood through two life-saving transfusions! Any questions-please see Taylor Knapp.

The following scholarships are now available on the scholarship database: Multiple scholarships from the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln, Farm Credit for agriculture related majors, Leroy and Rachel Cantrall for teacher education, Polly Roesch, vocal music and The Skelton Scholarship for students with financial need. Reminder that the Plato and Flora McCourtney scholarship for scientific and technical careers must be turned in to Mrs. Povse. The Illinois Society of Professional Engineers is due Jan. 16. Check the Scholarship links button on the database page and find Tuition Funding Sources, a new scholarship database sponsored by Pepsi-Cola.

GOOD MORNING … SPRINGFIELD HIGH!!! No, it’s not Baltimore, but it is where “HAIRSPRAY” is going to come alive the first week of May in the Schnirring Auditorium. That means, it is time to get ready for “HAIRSPRAY” auditions.
Please mark your calendars now and plan to audition on Tuesday, February 3rd or Thursday, February 5th. More information will be coming soon about specifics, but registration on both of these days will begin at 3:45 pm in the Schnirring Auditorium. Audition music will be available soon from Mr. Kaplan in the Choir Room. Keep listening for “HAIRSPRAY at Springfield High” audition updates, and remember … YOU CAN’T STOP THE BEAT!!!!

All girls, not out for a winter sport, interested in running track this spring Girls Track - There will be a meeting Tuesday, at 3:30 in room 521. If you have any questions, see Mr. Warren.

All Girls interested in playing soccer plan to attend an informational meeting in room 404 after school on Wednesday, January 14.

SHS wrestling team has a home meet Thursday night against Peoria and the City Meet at Lanphier on Friday night. The wrestling team would love to have your support at both events especially the City Meet as they try to repeat as City Champs. Both meets start at 5:00 p.m.

Turn up to the princess tower, room 406, this Friday at 3:30 for a fantastic lit club meeting. We will be talking about the book Unwind and ordering amazing apparel to recognize our reading nerdiness. Readers are leaders and leaders should be dressed to impress. So what could be better than this Friday's lit club meeting? If you don't show up, you will be devastated forever that you missed this epic opportunity. So let's unwind with a good book and look good while doing it.
