Good morning Springfield High! Today is Wednesday, January 21, 2015 where successful Senators are appropriate: they use appropriate language, tone and volume and follow the school dress code. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Seniors: The due date for senior portraits and senior baby pictures has been extended to January 30. Take your baby picture and ten dollars to Mrs. Eslahi in room 254. Get your portrait taken at Grussenmeyer Photography, 484 South Durkin Drive. The cost is fifteen dollars.

SENIORS: January is FAFSA month. FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. You and your parent/guardian must complete this application online to receive free money for college or technical school.

The following scholarships are now available on the scholarship database: Multiple scholarships from the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln, Farm Credit for agriculture related majors, Leroy and Rachel Cantrall for teacher education, Polly Roesch, vocal music and The Skelton Scholarship for students with financial need. Scottish Rite scholarships, Illinois Municipal Utilities Assoc. & CWLP, SIU-E Alumni. Reminder that the Plato and Flora McCourtney scholarship for scientific and technical careers must be turned in to Mrs. Povse. Check the Scholarship links button on the database page and find Tuition Funding Sources, a new scholarship database sponsored by Pepsi-Cola.

SENIORS: if you signed up for the Lincoln Land Community College Admissions Workshop next Wednesday, Jan. 28, please note that because of numbers we are having to do two sessions, one at 1:00 and the next at 1:45. When you receive your green pass on Tuesday, please note the time you have been assigned.

Senior apparel is in. There are a FEW extra dry fit shirts. If you would like to purchase one, please see Mrs. Pence in room 210 or Mrs. Myers in 212. Short sleeve are $22 and long sleeve $26. You must have the money to receive a shirt.

All juniors and seniors who are eligible to apply for National Honor Society are on lists displayed outside of the main office, Mrs. Taft's room (356), Mr. Kramer's room (326) or on the school website. If you are interested please come to Mr. Kramer's room to get an application letter. The application letter must be filled out and returned to Mr Kramer by 3:30pm Friday, January 23.

Juniors and Seniors who were given a permission slip to the College Prep Summit, please turn those in to Mrs. Povse ASAP. Slide them under her door.

The Superintendent's Student Roundtable will meet today from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room at 1900 W. Monroe. Any student with an interest in leadership is welcome to attend.

Attention all boys not involved in a winter sport, that are interested in participating in boys track and field this Spring. There will be a mandatory informational meeting today at 2:30. All interested athletes MUST attend. Any questions see Coach Cotner.

There will be an informational meeting for girls interested in softball Friday after school in room 116.

GOOD MORNING … SPRINGFIELD HIGH!!! HAIRSPRAY, this year's SHS school musical, will hit the stage the first weekend of May in the Schnirring Auditorium. Please mark your calendars now and plan to audition on Tuesday, February 3rd or Thursday, February 5th. More information will be coming soon about specifics, but registration on both of these days will begin at 3:45 pm in the Schnirring Auditorium. Come by the choir room after school today or sometime this week to pick up your desired vocal selection for auditions. Keep listening for “HAIRSPRAY at Springfield High” audition updates, and remember … YOU CAN’T STOP THE BEAT!!!!

The YMCA wants every girl ready to experience an amazing prom night with friends. The YMCA and their partners want to help you find the perfect dress, shoes, and accessories at their Prom It Forward Event is this Saturday at the downtown YMCA 9 AM - 4 PM. To participate in Prom It Forward a $20 donation to the Y’s Strong Kids Scholarship Fun or a donation of new children’s book is suggested. The IN Session showchoir would like to invite everyone to Applebee’s Flapjack breakfast fundraiser at the Veterans parkway location on Saturday, January 24th from 8am-10am. Tickets are $5 per person at the door. Showchoir members will be serving short stack of pancakes, side of bacon and a drink of your choice. Money raised will go toward the Showchoir’s trip to Nationals! Hope to see you all there.

Take a chance to win prime parking for City Tournament with the Scarlet Line. Park in one of the five closest parking spots to the Prairie Capital Convention Center in the parking lot on the corner of 9th and Adams. Tickets are 1 for $1 or 6 for $5. Four winners will be drawn for each night of the tournament. Or buy a chance to win a parking spot for all three nights along with a spirit basket worth over $100. The basket includes a sweatshirt, t-shirts, an SHS necklace and charm, gift cards to Jimmy John's, Starbucks, Cold Stone Creamery and more. Stop by the Scarlet Line table during both lunch shifts to check in out. Chances for the three parking passes and spirit basket are 1 for $3 or 2 for $5. Last chance is today! Winners will be drawn Thursday morning.

The city t-shirts will be passed out to all that ordered them on both lunch shifts today in the Commons. Please don't interrupt class to get yours during the day as they are put away and not available. Get yours before Thursday!!

Thank you to all 1st hour teachers and students for donating to the Spirit of Giving Fund. We will be collecting the money this morning during 1st hour. So- give as much as you can - the winning class will receive a donut/bagel party!! Help boost our donation toward the Spirit of Giving!!

Tickets for Boys City Basketball tournament are on sale this week. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Tickets for Thursday night’s game are available until 1 pm Thursday. Tickets for Friday and Saturday night’s game are available to purchase until 1 PM Friday.

Students, please remember that the Boy’s Basketball City Tournament this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the Prairie Capital Convention Center is a school function and all behavior guidelines will be enforced at all times during the City Tournament. Any inappropriate behavior displayed at the City Tournament will result in consequences that will be enforced by the administration of Springfield High. This includes behavior inside the Convention Center, as well as adjacent to the facility.

In addition, we want to remind everyone that students are expected to wear clothing that does not include lewd, obscene, or vulgar language or representation of anything illegal. Large chains or wallet chains are not allowed. Caps may be worn, but the bill must remain facing forward.

No seating will be allowed in the balcony. Therefore, no spectators are allowed in the balcony area.

Please remember that the Springfield Police Department will be wanding all spectators as they enter the Convention Center.

Students are prohibited from standing on the seats at any and all times. Students may be asked to leave the premises if they indicate an unwillingness to cooperate with security personnel. Anyone asked to leave may not return to any future games this weekend.

The second game will conclude at approximately 9:15 p.m. Please make sure your ride, if needed, is available to pick you up at that time.

Most importantly, we hope you and your friends have fun and enjoy the City Tournament this weekend. The Tournament should prove to be very exciting, safe, and enjoyable for fans of all ages!
