Good morning Springfield High! Today is Thursday, February 26, 2015 where successful Senators are productive; they participate in class, complete the work, and turn in the work. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Juniors and undecided seniors: It is time once again for the College and Military recruiters to visit. Check the list outside Mrs. Povse's office or in the glass case outside of Guidance. Passes are needed for presentations held during a class period. Get a pass in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse.

The following scholarships are now available on the database: Robert E. Von Behren and the Illinois Lumber and Material Dealers Association for careers in the building industry; Sangamon County Community Resources for programs leading to employment, must show financial need; William McElroy for males in pre-med; Sharon Miller IEA for future teachers. Delta Sigma Theta for African Americans and Sigma Nu Fraternity for males going to UIUC. Be reminded that March 1 is the deadline for many scholarships on the database.
Seniors applying for the Plato and Flora McCourtney: a new version of the scholarship in pdf form is now on the database which will enable you to complete it online rather than on paper.

SENIORS: If you have not yet completed the FAFSA be aware that many schools require FAFSA completion by the end of February. Don't miss out on FREE money! If you need assistance see Mrs. Povse ASAP.

Seniors - Please check the large poster board with senior pictures in the glass case outside the main office. Please make sure your picture is correct and your name is spelled correctly. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Eslahi.

Juniors-FREE ACT EXAM here at Springfield HS on Mar 3rd & 4th. Everything, including pre-registration, will be done here at SHS so no need for you to do anything but make sure you are here at school on Mar 3rd & 4th and plan Dr. appointments for other days. TEACHERS-ACT details will continue to be emailed.

Juniors and Seniors who signed up for the College Summit at Lincoln Land Community College: the date has been changed to March 5. You will receive a note next week telling you where to meet. The bus will leave at 8:30 and return at 2:30.

Memorial Health System's is sponsoring Teens Experiencing Nursing, a 4 day summer camp from July 13-July 16. 30 area teens will be selected. If you want to job shadow nurses and learn more about the nursing career get an application and fill it out before April 3rd. Applications are online at MemorialCareers.com or from Mrs. Povse in 153A.

PORTA Pool in Petersburg, IL, will sponsor the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Certification Course April 1 through April 6. The course will prepare participants to work as trained lifeguards. Participants must be 15 years old by April 6, 2015, and must attend all class sessions. Sessions will be held on April 1, 5:30 - 9:00 p.m.; April 3, 4, and 6, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Cost of the course is $210.00, due at time of registration. Recertification of currently certified lifeguards will be held simultaneously with this course for a cost of $150.00. The Superintendent's Student Roundtable will meet on March 4 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room at 1900 W. Monroe. Any student with an interest in leadership and student affairs is welcome to attend. Please contact Julie Hammers at 525-4406 or Nicole Irlam at 525-3002 if you plan to attend.

Read For A Lifetime finalists don't forget to let Mrs. Dahmane know if you are coming to the luncheon and if you are bringing a guest. Tomorrow is the big day!

Extreme bowling is back! Come show off what skills you have developed from PE with the Class of 2016 who is hosting a two hour bowling party at Strike’n’Spare West. It is this Sunday evening, March 1st from 10 PM - Midnight. We do not have school Monday so come out and have fun with your SHS classmates. $12 covers all costs. Last time we hosted this event all 32 lanes sold out and everyone had a great time. See Mr. Kramer or a class officer for info. Tickets will be sold this week and at the door.

Class of 2016 will be selling hot chocolate again tomorrow before school for $1 a cup!

Törrröööööhhhh German Club! Today we are having our next movie night. Please join us after school in room 250 to watch the movie "12 Winters". Please find the parent-permission form on the German Club calendar. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Hope to see you there.

Reminder, NHS Members! Today is meeting day. If you missed this mornings meeting, you must come after school in Mrs. Tafts’ room, room 356.


The Girls Soccer team will have a mandatory meeting Today after school in room 404.

Wrestling team should start turning in their gear this week. Anyone unable to find issued gear will need to pay for any lost equipment.

Attention Baseball Players- Please pick up your practice schedule for next week from Coach in room 166. That's Baseball Practice Schedules are now available for pick-up in room 166.

Hola! If you are in Spanish Club, and you would like to come to the International Dinner, there will be a mandatory informational meeting in Mr. Reichert's room (room 260) this Friday right after school. See you there!

Congratulations to Gina Suszko who won first place in both the African American History Month Poster and Essay Contests.

Attention all Senators!! Be A Senator if recognizing outstanding behavior and acts of kindness by students and staff throughout the building.
