Good morning Springfield High! Today is Monday, March 16, 2015 where successful Senators are productive; they participate in class, complete the work, and turn in the work. Thank you for Being A Senator!

The following freshmen will take the PARCC test today:
Valentine's 2nd hour and Armstrong's 3rd hour classes will take the test in the commons 1-3 hour.
Negele's 4th, 5th, and 6th hour classes will take the test in the commons 5-7 hour.
Please bring a pencil, headphones, and a book to read.

Juniors and undecided seniors: It is time once again for the College and Military recruiters to visit. Check the list outside Mrs. Povse's office or in the glass case outside of Guidance. Passes are needed for presentations held during a class period. Get a pass in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse.

SENIORS: If you have not yet completed the FAFSA be aware that many schools require FAFSA completion by the end of March. Don't miss out on FREE money! If you need assistance see Mrs. Povse ASAP.

The Purdue Women in Engineering Program will be hosting a Juniors Exploring Engineering at Purdue for high school female juniors. The event will be Monday, April 13 with an optional Sunday evening reception. Registrations are due April 6 and limited to the first 250 students. Contact wiep@purdue.edu/WIEP or call 765-494-3889

Permission slips for the next college bus trip, Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville will be available from Mrs. Povse or in the Guidance Office beginning today. The trip is April 9. The first 35 signed permission slips of qualified students, grades will be checked, will be able to go.

A bus trip to Illinois State University is scheduled for April 27. Those permissions will be available after spring break.

If you are interested with agriculture, the University of Illinois has a Summer Agriculture Program, and the deadline to apply is March 20. If you are interested, please see Mr. Williams in the Guidance Office or email him.

Applications are being accepted for the 2015-2016 Student School Board Member for the Springfield Public Schools Board of Education. Rising seniors interested in the position can obtain an application packet in their school's guidance office or by visiting the Board of Education's page of the District website. Applications are due in the Board of Education's office, 1900 West Monroe Street, by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 20.

Memorial Health System's is sponsoring Teens Experiencing Nursing, a 4 day summer camp from July 13-July 16. 30 area teens will be selected. If you want to job shadow nurses and learn more about the nursing career get an application and fill it out before April 3rd. Applications are online at MemorialCareers.com or from Mrs. Povse in 153A.

PORTA Pool in Petersburg, IL, will sponsor the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Certification Course April 1 through April 6. The course will prepare participants to work as trained lifeguards. Participants must be 15 years old by April 6, 2015, and must attend all class sessions. Sessions will be held on April 1, 5:30 - 9:00 p.m.; April 3, 4, and 6, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Cost of the course is $210.00, due at time of registration. Recertification of currently certified lifeguards will be held simultaneously with this course for a cost of $150.00. Attention all Senators!! Be A Senator if recognizing outstanding behavior and acts of kindness by students and staff throughout the building. If you catch a Senator in the act, be sure to write it down on any paper and drop it in the Be A Senator box, located outside the cafeteria. Any questions see Mr. Kramer or Mr. Becker.

Any Juniors: If you plan on Graduating early by the end of THIS school year, please see Mr. Williams in the Guidance Office ASAP.

Students - Please make sure all absences are cleared within 48 hours of your last absence either by having parents call or providing notes from doctors for absences. Students you can log into the cumulative folder to check for any attendance discrepancies. This is just a reminder as we approach the end of the year and final exam exemptions.

Tryouts for the 2015-2016 SHS Cheerleading squads are approaching next month. Tryout packets can be picked up in the main office or from Coach Lauer and they can be downloaded from the SHS Cheerleading webpage. Anyone interested in trying out must attend the mandatory tryout meeting Tuesday, April 6th at 5:30pm in the SHS Commons. This is an informational meeting for parents and candidates that will provide all the details of the 2015-2016 season and team rules & expectations. Any questions please contact Coach Lauer.

Sophomore Soccer team bus will leave at 3:40 PM from Parker Street behind the gym.
