Good morning Springfield High! Today is Tuesday, March 24, 2015 where successful Senators follow the classroom and school wide expectations and allow for learning by all throughout the building. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Seniors: Check out the following scholarships on the database: American Assoc. of Blacks in Energy, minority students studying a STEM major, $2000, March 27, deadline; Delta Sigma Theta, March 31; Plato and Flora McCourtney for scientific and technical careers, March 26 to Mrs. Povse. Many more.

Juniors and undecided seniors: It is time once again for the College and Military recruiters to visit. Check the list outside Mrs. Povse's office or in the glass case outside of Guidance. Passes are needed for presentations held during a class period. Get a pass in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse.

SENIORS: If you have not yet completed the FAFSA be aware that many schools require FAFSA completion by the end of March. Don't miss out on FREE money! If you need assistance see Mrs. Povse ASAP.

The Purdue Women in Engineering Program will be hosting a Juniors Exploring Engineering at Purdue for high school female juniors. The event will be Monday, April 13 with an optional Sunday evening reception. Registrations are due April 6 and limited to the first 250 students. Contact wiep@purdue.edu/WIEP or call 765-494-3889

Permission slips for the next college bus trip, Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville will be available from Mrs. Povse or in the Guidance Office beginning today. The trip is April 9. The first 35 signed permission slips of qualified students, grades will be checked, will be able to go.

A bus trip to Illinois State University is scheduled for April 27. Those permissions will be available after spring break.

Memorial Health System's is sponsoring Teens Experiencing Nursing, a 4 day summer camp from July 13-July 16. 30 area teens will be selected. If you want to job shadow nurses and learn more about the nursing career get an application and fill it out before April 3rd. Applications are online at MemorialCareers.com or from Mrs. Povse in 153A.

PORTA Pool in Petersburg, IL, will sponsor the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Certification Course April 1 through April 6. The course will prepare participants to work as trained lifeguards. Participants must be 15 years old by April 6, 2015, and must attend all class sessions. Sessions will be held on April 1, 5:30 - 9:00 p.m.; April 3, 4, and 6, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Cost of the course is $210.00, due at time of registration. Recertification of currently certified lifeguards will be held simultaneously with this course for a cost of $150.00. Students - Please make sure all absences are cleared within 48 hours of your last absence either by having parents call or providing notes from doctors for absences. Students you can log into the cumulative folder to check for any attendance discrepancies. This is just a reminder as we approach the end of the year and final exam exemptions.

Tryouts for the 2015-2016 SHS Cheerleading squads are approaching next month. Tryout packets can be picked up in the main office or from Coach Lauer and they can be downloaded from the SHS Cheerleading webpage. Anyone interested in trying out must attend the mandatory tryout meeting Tuesday, April 6th at 5:30pm in the SHS Commons. This is an informational meeting for parents and candidates that will provide all the details of the 2015-2016 season and team rules & expectations. Any questions please contact Coach Lauer.

Sophomores - You may still place your class ring orders on Thursday, March 26th with Josten’s in the commons. Please bring your completed form along with $60 deposit.

Spring is here and to celebrate, the class of 2018 will be selling delicious Baskin Robbins ice cream sundaes during both lunch shifts on Thursday for $2.00! Get yours while supplies last!

Attention FCA: The FCA meeting is Tonight at 7 PM. Hope everyone can be there!

Hey, Senators! The 3rd quarter Be A Senator acknowledgement will be held Friday during both lunch shifts. The criteria for inclusion was no detentions or discipline referrals and fewer than 3 excused absences (no unexcused absences) for 3rd quarter. Those students who qualified will get a slushie and nachos with cheese at lunch on Friday. Lists with the names of all of those eligible will be emailed to teachers and will be placed outside the guidance office, main office, attendance office, and commons by Wednesday morning. Keep your eyes open for Out of the Blue surprises coming to a classroom near you! An announcement for the 4th quarter acknowledgement will be made after Spring Break. Remember, get to class on time, act like a Senator at all times, and if you are absent, have a parent or guardian call in. As always, thank you for Being A Senator!

Attention! For those choir students participating in the All City Music Festival, you have a rehearsal this Friday, March 27th, from 9:30-12:00 in the SHS auditorium. Please report to the auditorium after 1st hour ends.

The application deadline for the 2015-16 Student Board of Education member has been extended to April 8. Applications are due in the Board of Education Office, 1900 W. Monroe by 4:30 p.m. Application packets can be found in the guidance office or on the Board of Education's area of the District homepage. Mens WearHouse will be here this Wednesday during both lunch shifts to pass out Prom Tux coupons. They will also price match any other store's coupon. Please use them this year when ordering your tuxes. They are donating all of the tuxes for prom court and will donate $5 back to our school for every SHS tux ordered there. Just a reminder- the boys on prom court need to go to Mens WearHouse to get fitted for your tuxes.

Wrestlers are reminded to turn in their Awards Banquet slips as soon as possible. Thursday is the banquet and an accurate count of how many people are attending is needed for ordering food.

Reports cards will be distributed 5th hour today for students who selected a paper copy at registration.
